Famous Drawing Artists Today: The Best Contemporary Talent to Watch
Well, I don’t rightly know much about them fancy artists, ya know? But they say there’s folks out there drawin’ real good pictures these days. Drawin’, that’s where it all starts, right? You gotta draw somethin’ before you go paintin’ it all up. Them teachers at them art schools, they make the young’uns draw first, I heard. Draw this, draw that, they say. Then maybe they let ’em paint somethin’ big.
Now, I ain’t one for all that modern stuff, all them squiggles and splashes. But they say there’s this fella, Gerhard Richter. Heard he’s the best painter alive today. Lives over in Germany somewheres. Folks call him the “Picasso of our time,” whatever that means. Picasso, I heard of him, he made pictures where folks got eyes all outta whack. This Richter fella, he does them abstract pictures, somethin’ called the “Cage” series. Don’t ask me what it is, I ain’t never seen it.
- Folks say he’s the most famous, this Richter. Born way back in 1932. Must be an old feller now. Still paintin’, though.
- He lives in Cologne, Germany, they say.
Then there’s this other one, Jean-Michel Basquiat. He ain’t around no more, passed on, they say. But he was real famous for his drawin’ and paintin’. Kinda wild stuff, I seen a picture once. Scribbles and words and all sorts.
And now, they tellin’ me about this Beeple fella. Mike Winkelman is his real name, or so they say. He makes pictures on the computer, they say. Digital art, they call it. I don’t rightly understand it. Pictures made on a machine? What’s the world comin’ to?
Drawin’, paintin’, it’s all the same in a way, I reckon. You’re makin’ pictures. Some folks make pictures of things they see, like apples and trees. Some folks make pictures outta their heads, just shapes and colors. Who’s to say what’s right or wrong? It’s all in the eye of the beholder, ain’t it?
So, them’s the famous drawin’ artists they talkin’ about today. Richter, Basquiat, Beeple. Remember them names if you wanna sound all fancy and knowledgeable. Me, I’m just a simple person. I like a picture that looks like somethin’ I recognize. But these modern folks, they got different ideas. And I guess that’s alright. The world needs all kinds, don’t it?
