Oh, those artists, the famous ones, 1800 of ’em, they say. That’s a whole lotta folks drawin’ and paintin’! I reckon some of ’em painted flowers and trees. Like them sunflowers, real big and yella. Makes a place look sunny, even when it ain’t. And them trees, all tall and green, reminds me of the woods back home. Lots of bugs in there, but pretty to look at, I guess.
Then there’s them fellas who draw people. Faces and such. Saw a picture once, lady with a smile, kinda crooked but friendly. Like she knew a secret or somethin’. Wonder if she was a real person, or just made up. Some artists make up stuff, ya know? Like them stories they tell in books. Only with pictures.
Some artists use fancy words, like “impressionist” and “neoclassic.” I dunno what all that means, but they sure made a fuss about it. Guess it’s important if you’re into that art stuff. They paint things all blurry sometimes, or all straight lines. I like it when things look like what they are. A tree should look like a tree, not a bunch of squiggles. But who am I to say?
- There’s this one guy, born in November, paints real pretty.
- Another fella, wrote poems too. Smart fella, I reckon.
- And some others, painted old stuff, like them Roman statues. Saw one in a book once. Naked fella with a leaf. Made me blush!
Them artists from olden times, they painted what they saw, I guess. Kings and queens, battles and such. Probably got paid good money for it too. Can’t imagine paintin’ all day. My hands would get tired. I’d rather be cookin’ or gardenin’. Get somethin’ done.
But art, it’s somethin’, ain’t it? Makes ya think. Makes ya feel. Sometimes happy, sometimes sad. Like them sad clown pictures. Makes ya wanna give him a hug. Or that dog picture, waggin’ its tail. Makes ya wanna pat its head.
I heard some of these artists were poor, some were rich. Didn’t matter much, I guess. Paintin’ is paintin’. Some people buy their paintings, put ’em up on the wall. Must be nice to have somethin’ pretty to look at all day. Beats starin’ at a blank wall.
There’s them artists who painted modern stuff too. City streets and trains. Don’t look as nice as flowers and trees, but I guess it’s important to some folks. The world’s changin’, they say. Gotta keep up with the times.
Some of these artists, they got stories. Like that guy who cut off his ear. Crazy fella. But he painted good, they say. Makes ya wonder what goes on in their heads. What makes ’em wanna paint all them pictures.
And then there’s the ones who paint colors. Just colors, swirly and bright. Like a rainbow gone wild. Pretty to look at, but I dunno what it means. Maybe it don’t mean nothin’. Maybe it’s just pretty. Sometimes pretty is enough, ain’t it?
So, 1800 famous artists. That’s a lot to remember. I probably can’t name more than a handful. But it’s nice to know they’re out there, makin’ the world a little more colorful. A little more interestin’. Even if I don’t understand half of what they do, I appreciate it. It’s somethin’ different, ain’t it? And sometimes, different is good.
