Patron Saint of Brain Injury: Prayers and Intercession for Healing

Alright, so you wanna know about this… this patron saint of brain injury, huh? Well, lemme tell ya, it ain’t somethin’ I learned in school, that’s for sure. School? Hah! Back in my day, we learned how to milk a cow and plant potatoes, not this fancy saint stuff.

But, I’ve heard things, ya know? People talkin’. And from what I gather, there ain’t just one saint people pray to when their head gets banged up. It’s like… it depends, see? Like, if it’s a real bad accident, like somebody’s head got crushed, they might pray to St. Maximilian Kolbe. Yeah, I heard he helped folks like that. Healin’ ’em up, miraculous-like.

Then there’s this St. John Licci. Sounds foreign, don’t it? Well, they say he’s the one to go to if you got a head injury, or if you’re gonna have some fancy brain surgery. Poor soldiers comin’ back all messed up in the head, they pray to him too, I hear. Traumatic brain somethin’-or-other, they call it. Sounds awful, if you ask me.

  • Now, if it’s somethin’ with the nerves, or if you’re just plain goin’ crazy in the head, that’s a different story.
  • Then you got St. Dymphna. She’s for the… the mental stuff, ya know? Like when your brain ain’t workin’ right, and you’re all sad and messed up in the head. She’s a good one to pray to, I guess, if you’re feelin’ lost and confused.

And then, get this, there’s even a saint for them folks that look at them X-ray pictures of your insides. St. Michael the Archangel, they call him the patron saint of radiologists. Radi-o-what-now? See, I told ya, this stuff is too fancy for me. But I reckon if you’re getting your head looked at with them fancy machines, he’s the one to pray to.

Oh, and there’s another one, some lady named Amalberga of Temse. She’s from way back when, they say. Charlemagne, you know, that king fella, he hurt her arm somethin’ awful, so now she’s the one you pray to if you got a broken arm, or if you’re havin’ surgery. I guess if you hurt your head and your arm at the same time, she’s a good one to ask for help, too. Can’t hurt to have two saints on your side, right?

So, see, it ain’t so simple, this patron saint business. It’s like… different saints for different problems. And there’s probably a whole bunch more I ain’t even heard of. But the main thing is, if you’re hurtin’, you gotta pray to somebody, right? It don’t matter so much which saint, just as long as you got faith. Faith can move mountains, they say. Maybe it can fix a broken head, too. I don’t know for sure, but it can’t hurt to try. Now, you go on and pray to whoever you think will help. And maybe say a little prayer for this old lady, too. My knees ain’t what they used to be, you know.

But remember, these saints, they ain’t doctors. You gotta go see a doctor if your head’s hurt. Prayin’ is good, but you gotta get yourself fixed up proper, ya hear? Don’t go thinkin’ some saint’s gonna magically make everything better. You gotta do your part, too.

And one last thing… if you do get better, don’t forget to say thank you. To the doctors, to the saints, to whoever helped you out. It’s important to be grateful, ya know? That’s what my mama always told me, anyway. And she was a wise woman, even if she didn’t know nothin’ about no patron saints.
