Alright, let’s talk about this… this scarab beetle ring thing. I saw some pictures, you know, on that internet thingy my grandson showed me. Shiny things, they are. Looks like bugs, but not the creepy crawly kind you find in the garden, mind you. These are… fancy bugs.
Now, they tell me these rings are supposed to be some kinda Egyptian thing. Egypt, that’s way over yonder, across the big water, I reckon. Hot place, full of sand and them pyramids. Apparently, them Egyptians, they were crazy about these beetles. Thought they were lucky or somethin’. Imagine that, wearin’ a bug on your finger for luck!
They call ’em scarabs. Sounds like somethin’ you’d catch in your throat, doesn’t it? But I hear it’s an important bug. Means life, or comin’ back to life, or somethin’ like that. Them Egyptians, they were big on livin’ forever, I guess. Who ain’t, right? Anyways, they figured this beetle pushin’ around that dung ball was like the sun rollin’ across the sky. Don’t ask me how they figured that one out. Them old timers were a bit strange, if you ask me.
So, they started makin’ these rings, and other things too, with the beetle on ’em. Figured it would protect ’em, give ’em good luck, help ’em get to the other side when they kicked the bucket. They made ’em outta all sorts of stuff. Gold, mostly, for the rich folks. And some other shiny stuff. Probably had some plain ones too, for the regular folk like you and me, if there were any regular folks back then.

- Some are just plain beetles, some got wings spread out, some got other fancy markings.
- I even seen some with other Egyptian stuff on ’em, like eyes and… and other squiggly lines. I ain’t no expert, mind you.
Now, you can still get these rings today. Not the old ones, mind you. Them’s probably in some museum or some rich fella’s collection. But they make new ones, look just like the old ones, I guess. They say they’re made of gold, or silver, or somethin’ called “sterling silver.” Sounds fancy, don’t it? Probably costs a pretty penny too.
They come in all sizes, too. Big ones, small ones, ones that wrap around your finger, ones that just sit on top. Some are for men, some are for women. I even seen some that are adjustable, so you can wear ‘em on any finger you want. Though, why you’d want more than one bug ring, I don’t rightly know.
So, why would you want a scarab beetle ring? Well, I guess some folks like the way they look. Shiny and different. Some folks might believe in the luck thing, figure it’ll bring ’em some good fortune. And some folks just like wearin’ stuff that reminds ’em of them old times, them Egyptians and their pyramids and whatnot.
Me? I ain’t so sure. I like my jewelry simple, you know? A nice plain gold band, maybe a little somethin’ sparkly. But a bug? I don’t know. But hey, to each their own, I always say. If you like bugs, and you like shiny things, and you want a little bit of that old Egyptian magic, then a scarab beetle ring might just be the thing for you. Just don’t go rollin’ no dung balls around, alright?
Just remember, whether you believe in the luck or not, it’s a conversation starter, that’s for sure. Folks will ask you about it, and you can tell ’em all about them Egyptians and their beetle obsession. Just don’t get too carried away, or they’ll think you’ve gone a bit… buggy.
And one more thing, if you do get one of these rings, take care of it. Don’t go washin’ dishes with it on, or diggin’ in the garden. It’s a piece of history, kinda, even if it’s a new one. Treat it nice, and it’ll last you a good long time. Maybe even bring you a little bit of that Egyptian luck.
