Alright, let’s talk about that Pompeii place, you know, the one that got buried a long, long time ago. They say it was a city, kinda like them big towns you see now, but way back when. And guess what? Them folks ate too, just like us! So, what kinda grub did they have? Well, let me tell ya, it ain’t like the fancy stuff they got in them restaurants today.

I heard tell they liked snails. Can you believe it? Snails! Them slimy things you find in the garden after it rains. But hey, I guess if you’re hungry, you’re hungry. They also ate a lot of beans, the kind they call fava beans. Ground ‘em up, I reckon, made ‘em into somethin’ like a mush. Probably filled ya up good, though.

Fast food, they call it now. Can you imagine? Walkin’ down the street in Pompeii and grabbin’ a bite to eat? They say they sold stuff like snails, beans, pork and wine in them stalls. Kinda like a little outdoor market, but with cooked food.
And bread! I almost forgot about the bread. There was this one place, a bakery they called it, run by a fella named Sotericus. They made bread there, good bread, they say. The kind that folks ‘round there were known for. Bread’s important, you know? Fills ya up, gives ya somethin’ to chew on. I bet that bakery smelled real good, all that fresh bread bakin’.
So, if you ever go to that Pompeii place, think about what them folks ate. No fancy stuff, just plain, simple food. Stuff to keep ‘em goin’, keep ‘em alive. And you know what? They say you can bring your own food and drinks when you go visit. That’s a good thing, ‘cause you don’t wanna get hungry wanderin’ around them old ruins. Bring some water, too. It gets hot walkin’ around in the sun all day.
It’s kinda strange, ain’t it? That city was buried so long ago, and yet we still know what they ate. It makes you think, you know? About how folks lived back then, what they did, what they ate. We ain’t so different, I guess. We all gotta eat, one way or another.
