Alright, let’s talk about these flowy lamps, or whatever fancy name they got. I seen some pictures, and they look kinda… wiggly. Not like a worm, mind you, but like… bendy. You know, the kind you can twist and turn every which way but loose.
First off, they got these things called gooseneck lamps. Sounds silly, right? Like a goose with a long neck. But it just means the lamp part is stuck on a bendy stick. So you can point the light where you need it, like if you’re readin’ a book or somethin’. Don’t gotta move the whole dang lamp, just the neck part. Handy, I guess, if you got a lot of stuff piled up and can’t be movin’ things around.
Then there’s these Japanese lamps, paper things, they call ‘em chōchin. Look like big ol’ paper lanterns. They hang ‘em from the ceiling or on poles, I hear. Pretty, I guess, if you like that sort of thing. But I reckon they ain’t gonna give you much light, not like those bright bulbs we got now. Still, they got that old-timey charm, like somethin’ you’d see in a temple or an old picture show.
And then there’s them lava lamps, kinda flowy too, I reckon. Got that hot lightbulb at the bottom and that waxy stuff that goes up and down. Hypnotizin’, some folks say. I remember seein’ them in the stores back in the day. Kids loved ‘em, always starin’ at that gooey stuff movin’ around. Not my cup of tea, but to each their own, I always say.
Now, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ for the floor, they got plenty of them flowy floor lamps too. Some made of wood, some metal, some with them fancy shades. Heard tell you can get ‘em handmade, too, if you got the money to spare. But honestly, some of them prices… highway robbery, I tell ya! Folks charigin’ an arm and a leg for a bit of wood and a lightbulb.
- You got your Mid Century Modern ones, sleek and simple.
- Then there’s them Alaska House Style ones, whatever that means.
- And your Tree Floor Lamps, lookin’ like a bunch of branches stickin’ up. Kinda cluttered, if you ask me.
Stores like Target and Macy’s, they got a bunch of ‘em too. Easy to find, I guess, if you don’t wanna go lookin’ all over creation. And they deliver ‘em right to your door, no need to go luggin’ ‘em around yourself. That’s somethin’, I suppose, especially if you’re old like me and your back ain’t what it used to be.
And then there’s IKEA, that Swedish place. Got all sorts of lamps, cheap and cheerful, they say. Reading lamps, standin’ lamps, even them archy ones that look like they’re gonna fall over any minute. But you get what you pay for, I always say. Don’t expect nothin’ fancy, but they’ll get the job done, I reckon.
So, there you have it, a whole bunch of flowy lamps. From them bendy gooseneck ones to them fancy floor lamps, there’s somethin’ for everyone, I guess. Me? I just like a good ol’ lamp that gives me plenty of light so I can see what I’m doin’. But these young folks, they like all them fancy things. To each their own, I say. Just make sure you don’t spend all your hard-earned money on somethin’ that’s just gonna sit there and collect dust.
And another thing, make sure you get the right kinda bulb, or you’ll be squinting like a cat in a thunderstorm. And don’t forget to dust them things, lamps get dusty, you know. Nobody wants a dusty lamp.
