Unlocking Shamanism and Art: History, Practices and Beliefs
Alright, let’s talk about this shaman stuff and art, whatever that means. I ain’t no fancy scholar, just an old woman who’s seen a thing or two, and I’ll tell ya what I know, or what I think I know, about these shamans and the pictures they make.
What is this Shaman Business Anyway?
Now, from what I gather, shamanism is somethin’ old, real old. Been around since folks first started thumpin’ on drums and starin’ at the fire, I reckon. These shamans, they’re like special folks, healers and spirit-talkers, they say. They mess with spirits and try to make things better, or sometimes worse, who knows? It’s all a bit spooky if you ask me.
The Pictures They Make
And these shamans, they like to make pictures, or art, as some folks call it. I seen some of them pictures once, in a book my grandson brought home from school. Weird stuff, let me tell ya. Lots of animals and strange-lookin’ people, sometimes mixed together, like a man with a bird head or somethin’. They say these pictures ain’t just pretty things to look at. They’re supposed to be powerful, like they got spirits livin’ inside ‘em or somethin’. The shamans use ‘em to talk to the spirits, to heal people, and maybe even to scare off bad luck.
- They draw spirits, animals and some weird human-animal mix
- They draw those shining lights around people, like they’re glowin’ or somethin’
- They draw pictures of the insides of folks, like they can see right through ‘em. Creepy, right?
Shamans and Their Gods
I heard tell that some shamans, Korean ones I think, they hang up bright pictures of their gods in their little prayer rooms. Every day they talk to these gods through them pictures, askin’ for help, for wisdom, for whatever it is shamans need. It’s like the gods are livin’ right there in the paint, listenin’ to their prayers. Makes you wonder, don’t it?
Different Kinds of Shamans
Now, not all shamans are the same, just like not all apples on a tree are the same. Some are good, some are bad, and some are just plain better at the shaman business than others. It all depends on who they’re talkin’ to, what kind of spirits they’re messin’ with. I heard some talk about “white” shamans and “dark” shamans, but I don’t know much about that. Sounds like a whole heap of trouble to me. And they are from all over the world. Everywhere you go, someone is banging a drum and talking to spirits.
Shamanism Today
You might think this shaman stuff is just old-timey nonsense, somethin’ from the past. But I heard tell there are still shamans around today, even in this modern world. They even got groups and organizations, like that Society for Shamanic Practice, or somethin’ like that. Seems folks are still lookin’ for answers in the old ways, still tryin’ to connect to somethin’ bigger than themselves. And who am I to say they’re wrong?
Shaman Art and Healing
And this shaman art, it ain’t just about pretty pictures, it’s also about healing, I think. Shamans use their art to help people get better, to fix their bodies and their minds. They believe that sickness comes from bad spirits, from things bein’ out of balance. And their art, it’s like a medicine, a way to bring things back into harmony. It’s all connected, you see, the spirits, the pictures, the healing. It’s a whole way of life, a way of seein’ the world.
Well, that’s about all I got to say about shamans and art. It’s a strange and mysterious world, that’s for sure. But maybe there’s somethin’ to it, somethin’ we can learn from these old ways. Maybe we all need a little bit of shaman magic in our lives, a little bit of connection to the spirits, a little bit of faith in somethin’ bigger than ourselves.
