Alright, let’s talk about this militarism thing, you know, like them big strong countries always showin’ off their muscles. It’s like, “Look at me, I got the biggest guns, I can do whatever I want!” That’s what it feels like to me, anyways.
I seen some things on that TV, yeah, the one in the corner of the living room. They talk about this North Korea place. Heard they spend all their money on soldiers and weapons. Always marchin’ around, showin’ off. Sounds like a bunch of trouble to me. Why can’t they just be nice to each other? Seems like they’re always lookin’ for a fight. Makes you wonder what they’re really up to.
This militarism, it’s like a sickness, ya know? Makes people think they gotta be the toughest, gotta boss everyone around. It ain’t right. My old man used to say, “The loudest rooster ain’t always the strongest.” Makes sense, don’t it? Just because you got a big army don’t mean you’re better than anyone else.
And then there’s all this nationalism stuff. “My country is the best! Yours is garbage!” That’s what they say, right? Seems to me, it’s all connected. You start thinkin’ your country is better than everyone else, then you wanna go around and tell everyone what to do. And you need a big army to do that. It’s a whole mess if you ask me.
- First, you think you’re better than everyone.
- Then, you want everyone to do what you say.
- Then, you need a big army to make them do it.
This ain’t new, neither. Heard on the radio they been doin’ this for hundreds of years. Back in the old days, them kings and emperors, they was all about it. Fightin’ over land, over who’s in charge. Ain’t changed much, has it? Just got bigger guns now, that’s all.
I saw some pictures online too, them cartoons. Funny lookin’ things, some of ‘em. But they got a point, ya know? Showin’ these big generals, all puffed up, yellin’ at each other. And the little people, they’re the ones who get hurt. Always the way, ain’t it?
Them picture websites, they got a bunch of these militarism cartoons. Some make you laugh, some make you think. But it’s all the same story, really. Big guys tryin’ to be bigger, and the rest of us just tryin’ to get by. Seems like we’re stuck in a loop if you ask me. When will it all stop?
It ain’t just countries neither, sometimes it’s just people. You see it in the streets, people fightin’, bullyin’ each other. It’s the same idea. Think they gotta be tough, gotta be in charge. Maybe if we all just learned to be a little nicer, things would be better. Seems like common sense but common sense isn’t so common these days. You can only control what you can control and everything else isn’t worth losing sleep over.
This militarism, it’s a dangerous thing. Leads to nothin’ but trouble. Wars, fightin’, people gettin’ hurt. Wish they’d just put down their guns and talk to each other for once. Maybe then we could all get along a little better.
So next time you see one of them militarism cartoons, take a good look. Think about what it’s sayin’. It ain’t just a funny picture, ya know? It’s a story about the world, and how we treat each other. I hope one day they’ll all learn to get along. Until then I’ll just keep praying for the best. It’s all I can do really.
Military power ain’t the answer. Never was, never will be. Real strength comes from kindness, from treatin’ people right. That’s what I think, anyways. And I’ve been around long enough to know a thing or two.
