Alright, so you wanna know about a nice cap, huh? Well, I ain’t no fancy hat maker, but I can tell ya a thing or two about keepin’ your head warm, or cool, or just plain lookin’ good. It all depends on what kinda cap you’re lookin’ for, see?
First off, you gotta think about the weather. If it’s cold, you’ll want somethin’ warm, like wool or that fleece stuff. My old man used to have a wool cap, itchy as heck, but it kept him warm through them cold winters. Now, them fleece caps, they’re soft and warm, but they don’t last as long, if you ask me. You gotta get a good thick one, none of that flimsy stuff. And make sure it covers your ears, that’s important. Nothin’ worse than achin’ ears in the winter, I tell ya.
If it’s sunny, well, then you want somethin’ to keep the sun outta your eyes. A baseball cap works good for that. But make sure it’s got a good brim, not one of them short little ones that don’t do nothin’. And get a light color, black caps just attract the heat. My grandson, he’s got a whole bunch of them baseball caps, different colors and teams and all that. He’s always wearin’ one, even indoors sometimes, silly boy.
Then there’s them fancy caps, you know, the ones people wear to look good. I don’t know much about them. My neighbor lady, she’s got a whole closet full of hats, all shapes and sizes. Some of ’em look like somethin’ a bird would wear, all feathers and such. But she likes ’em, so that’s all that matters, I guess. If you’re lookin’ for a fancy cap, well, you’re on your own, ’cause I ain’t got a clue.
Now, let’s talk about fit. A good cap gotta fit right, not too tight, not too loose. If it’s too tight, you’ll get a headache. If it’s too loose, it’ll blow off in the wind. You gotta try it on, see how it feels. Walk around a bit, make sure it stays put. And if you’re buyin’ it online, well, good luck with that. You never know what you’re gonna get. I always say, it’s best to go to the store, try it on yourself. That way, you know it fits right.
And don’t forget about the material. Like I said, wool is good for warmth, fleece is soft, and cotton is good for breathin’. But there’s other stuff too, like straw hats for the summer, and them fancy felt hats for dressin’ up. It all depends on what you need it for. And how much you wanna spend, of course. Some of them hats cost a fortune, I tell ya. More money than I make in a month, that’s for sure. But hey, if you got the money, and you wanna spend it on a hat, well, that’s your business.

And don’t be afraid to try on a few different ones, until you find the perfect fit. And if you see my neighbor lady with one of them bird nest hats, well, just smile and nod. It takes all kinds, I always say. It takes all kinds.
And one more thing, don’t go spendin’ a whole lot of money on a cap, unless you got money to burn. A good cap don’t have to be expensive. You can find a perfectly good cap at the second-hand store, or even at the flea market. Just make sure it’s clean and in good shape, and it’ll do the job just fine. No need to go breakin’ the bank for a hat, that’s what I say.
