Quick Guide to Ballroom Painting for a Perfect Finish
Alright, let’s talk about this… uh… ballroom painting thing. I ain’t no fancy artist or nothin’, but I reckon I can tell you a thing or two about what I see.
First off, “ballroom.” Sounds like a big ol’ room where folks dance, right? You know, like them fancy dances they do on TV, with the sparkly dresses and the men in them tight pants. My old man used to say it all started way back when, in Europe and America. They called it “ballroom dancing,” from some Latin word, ballare or somethin’. Means “to dance,” I guess. Makes sense, huh?
Now, about the “painting” part. That’s just pictures, right? Folks drawin’ and colorin’ stuff. I seen some pretty ones in my time, though I can’t say I understand all them squiggly lines and fancy colors. But I do like them pictures of people dancing. Makes me think of when I was young and went to the town dances. Lord, those were the days!
There’s this one picture, I think it’s by some fella named Matisse. It’s called “Dance.” It’s got these bright red people, just dancin’ in a circle, holdin’ hands and all. Now, that’s what I call a dancin’ picture! Not all gloomy and serious like some of them others. It’s just… happy, ya know?
- The Colors: I like bright colors. They make me feel good. Red, yellow, blue… all them happy colors. Not that brown and gray stuff some artists like to use.
- The People: If you’re gonna paint people, make ‘em look like they’re havin’ fun! Like them red dancers, or them folks in them old-timey ballroom scenes.
- The Story: I like a picture that tells a story. You know, like a picture of a couple dancin’ at a wedding, or folks just havin’ a good time at a town party.
Then there’s this other kind of paintin’, “plein air” they call it. That’s just fancy talk for paintin’ outside. Like, instead of sittin’ in your stuffy room, you go out and paint what you see. The trees, the sky, the fields… that kinda stuff. Them French fellas, the Impressionists, they were big on that. I reckon it makes sense. Nature’s purty, why not paint it?
I remember seein’ some paintin’ once, of a woman named Lola somethin’-or-other. This fella Manet painted her. She looked right sassy, all dressed up and whatnot. Made me think of them fancy ladies who used to come to the town dances, all dolled up and lookin’ for a husband. Ah, those were the days. Everyone all dressed up and looking pretty!
Anyways, back to the dancin’ pictures. Some folks say you should dance like nobody’s watchin’. And I reckon you can paint like that too. Just paint what you feel, what you see, what makes you happy. Don’t worry about what them fancy art critics say. They probably don’t know a good dancin’ picture from a hole in the wall.
And if you’re gonna paint a ballroom, make it a lively one. Full of music and laughter and people havin’ a good time. That’s what I’d want to see, anyway. Not some sad, empty room. I want to see the life, the joy. Because if you cannot see the joy what was the point of living, right? You gotta live life to the fullest even when painting!
So, there you have it. My two cents on ballroom painting. Like I said, I ain’t no expert, but I know what I like. And I like pictures that make me smile. Pictures that make me want to get up and dance. And if the painting makes me wanna do all that, I guess it’s a pretty good picture!
One last thing, if you’re ever feelin’ down, just put on some music and start dancin’. Or go look at some pictures of people dancin’. It’ll do you good, I promise. And if you’re feeling brave, try paintin’ somethin’ yourself. Even if it’s just a stick figure dancin’ in a circle. It’s all good, as long as it makes you happy.
