Alright, let’s talk about this ancient skincare stuff, you know, the things them old-timey folks used to do for their skin. I ain’t no fancy expert or nothin’, but I heard a thing or two from my grandma, and she got it from her grandma, so it’s gotta be somethin’, right?
Way back when, people didn’t have all these fancy creams and lotions we got now. They used what they had, you know, stuff from the earth, from the plants, from the animals. They was smart like that, makin’ do with what the good Lord gave ’em.
- Egypt folks, them pharaohs and queens, they was all about keepin’ their skin lookin’ young. They didn’t wanna wrinkle up like a dried prune, no sir! So, they used oils, like castor oil, sesame oil, and moringa oil. Heard tell them oils kept their skin soft and smooth, even with all that sun and sand beatin’ down on ’em. Smart, I tell ya, real smart. They started doin’ this skincare stuff like, 6000 years ago! That’s a long, long time ago, way before any of us was even a twinkle in our grandpappy’s eye.
- Then you got them Greece folks. They was big on apple cider vinegar. Yeah, the same stuff you put on your salads! But they used it on their hair and skin. Said it made their hair shiny and strong, and helped with pimples and such. Imagine that, washin’ your face with vinegar! Sounds kinda stinky, but hey, if it worked for them, it worked. They was using this stuff for acne and hair problems, smart cookies I tell ya.
My grandma, she used to say, “Keep it simple, keep it natural.” She didn’t go slatherin’ her face with a bunch of goop. She used honey sometimes, for a face mask. Said it made her skin soft and glowy. And she used oatmeal too, for scrubbin’ her skin. Just plain old oatmeal, nothin’ fancy. She’d mix it with a little water and rub it on her face. Said it got rid of all the dead skin and dirt.
And let me tell you, her skin was somethin’ else. Even when she was old, she hardly had a wrinkle. Smooth as a baby’s bottom, that’s what it was. I always wondered how she did it. Now I reckon it was all them natural things she used.
Now, I ain’t sayin’ you gotta go out and start rubbin’ yourself with castor oil and vinegar. But maybe we can learn a thing or two from them old-timers. Maybe we don’t need all these chemicals and fancy ingredients. Maybe the best stuff for our skin is the stuff that comes straight from the earth.
I mean, think about it. Them Egyptians, they lived in the desert, hot and dry. They needed somethin’ to protect their skin from the sun and sand. And them Greeks, they was all about health and beauty. They knew that what you put on your body was just as important as what you put in it. They were all about rituals for cleaning and purifying.
So, maybe we should take a page outta their book. Maybe we should go back to the basics. Use natural ingredients, keep it simple. And don’t forget the most important thing: drink plenty of water and get enough sleep. That’s what my grandma always said, and she was a wise old woman. She always said “Beauty comes from the inside out, child” She also used to say somethin’ about keeping the skin protected from sun, said “ Too much sun makes ya look like an old boot”. So I always try to stay in the shade.
Nowadays, folks are always lookin’ for the next best thing, the latest miracle cream. But maybe, just maybe, the answers been there all along, hidden in the wisdom of the ancients. From natural ingredients to advanced beauty treatments, there’s all kind of stuff to do, but sometimes the old ways are the best. After all, they have been doing this skincare stuff since like, December 18, 2020, wait, no… since September 12, 2023… oh heck, I don’t know, it was a long time ago. Anyways, it’s somethin’ to think about, ain’t it?
So, next time you’re lookin’ for a new skincare routine, don’t just reach for the fanciest, most expensive stuff on the shelf. Think about what them old-timers did. Do some research, find some natural ingredients, and give it a try. You might be surprised at the results. And who knows, maybe you’ll end up with skin as smooth and glowy as my grandma’s.
And remember, takin’ care of your skin ain’t just about lookin’ good. It’s about feelin’ good too. When your skin is healthy and happy, you feel healthy and happy. And that’s what really matters, ain’t it?
