- Trinity Church: This here’s a church, a real old one. It’s got them pointy spires and stained glass windows and all that. Real pretty, in a kinda serious way. Makes you feel like you should be whisperin’ or somethin’. You know, like when you’re in a library or somethin’.
They say there’s other places too, but I ain’t seen ’em all. You gotta keep your eyes peeled, though. Sometimes they’re hidin’ in plain sight, surrounded by all them modern buildin’s. It’s like findin’ a treasure, kinda.

Now, I ain’t no architect, but I reckon they built them gothic buildin’s to make a statement. They wanted to show off their skills, and they wanted to make somethin’ that would last. And I guess they did a pretty good job, seein’ as how them buildin’s are still standin’ today.
Some folks say it’s about connectin’ to the past, makin’ people feel like they’re part of somethin’ bigger than themselves. And maybe it is. When you stand in front of one of them big gothic churches, you kinda feel small, ya know? Like you’re just a tiny speck in the grand scheme of things. Makes you wonder what them old-timers were thinkin’ when they built it. Probably didn’t have no TVs or cell phones back then, so I guess they had more time to build fancy stuff.

And it ain’t just New York that’s got these gothic buildin’s. They got ’em all over the place, even in Europe. I heard tell there’s a place in France called Rouen, and they got more churches there than people. Can you believe that? More churches than people! That’s just crazy. Must be a real religious place, or somethin’. I bet they got some real fancy gothic buildin’s over there, probably even fancier than the ones in New York. I ain’t never been, though. Too far to travel for an old lady like me.

So, next time you’re in New York, take a look around. See if you can spot some of them gothic buildin’s. They’re kinda like a window to the past, a reminder of how things used to be. And even if you ain’t into history or architecture, you gotta admit, they’re pretty darn impressive. They just don’t build ‘em like they used to, that’s for sure. All these new buildings are just plain boxes, nothing fancy about ‘em. Gotta give it to them old timers, they knew how to make a statement.
