But now, punks? Ha, they had a different idea. By the time they come around in the ’70s, they were done with all this lovey-dovey talk. They thought hippies were too soft, too lazy, sittin’ around dreamin’ but never doin’ much about it. Punks wanted action, and I mean real action. They had these leather jackets, spiky hair, ripped clothes—like they was ready for a fight. And in a way, they was! They were mad about everything—government, society, the rich folks—they wanted to knock it all down and start over. Didn’t believe in no peace signs, that’s for sure.
Now, ya see, hippies thought ya could change the world by just lovin’ each other, talkin’ things out. They thought if folks understood each other, there’d be no need for violence. They’d gather in big ole groups, like at Woodstock, just singin’ and dancin’, thinkin’ that was enough to bring peace to the world. But punks? Ha! They’d look at that and just laugh. To them, hippies were wastin’ time on dreams, not reality.
These punks, they wanted to see change happen, and if it took smashin’ things up, well, so be it. They thought the world was messed up, controlled by folks who didn’t care about the little people. They weren’t big on politeness or peace. They wanted chaos, and they weren’t shy about it. They’d go to punk concerts, screamin’ lyrics about rebellion, throwin’ things around. To them, music wasn’t just for listenin’—it was for startin’ somethin’!
Why punks didn’t like hippies? Well, it’s like this—hippies were all about sittin’ and talkin’, but punks thought that was just a waste. They thought hippies were naive, sittin’ around with flowers in their hair, thinkin’ life’s all sunshine and rainbows. Punks were angry—they didn’t have no time for dreams. If they didn’t like somethin’, they’d say it loud, with no apologies. Where hippies might sit down and try to find peace, punks would rather stand up and shout, fightin’ for change the hard way.

Course, not everyone understood why they hated each other so much. But when ya look close, it kinda makes sense. Hippies thought punks were scary, and punks thought hippies were just plain useless. The way they saw the world, well, it was like lookin’ through two completely different windows.
So, here we are, two groups, hippies and punks, both wanting somethin’ better, but couldn’t be more opposite. Guess that’s just how people are. They see things different, and it don’t always line up. But ya gotta admit, even if they didn’t agree, they each changed things in their own way. Hippies got folks thinkin’ about peace, and punks? Well, they sure woke some people up!
