Thoth Teachings Explained: Dive into Ancient Egyptian Wisdom

Alright, let’s talk about this Thoth fella. I heard folks sayin’ he’s some big shot god from way back when, in Egypt. Egypt, that’s a place far, far away, hotter than a summer kitchen in July, I reckon. They say he was all about wisdom and writin’ and stuff. Smart fella, I guess, though I ain’t never seen him readin’ no newspaper.

Who is this Thoth anyway?

Now, they call him the moon god. Don’t ask me why, maybe he liked lookin’ at the moon all night, just like my old hound dog used to do. But he weren’t just about the moon, no sirree. He was into all sorts of things. Writin’, that’s a big one. He kept all the secrets and stories, they say. Kinda like the fella down at the town hall, keeps all them birth certificates and such. But Thoth, he kept the important stuff, the secrets of the whole wide world, apparently.

  • Wisdom: They say he was the wisest of the wise. I don’t know about that. Wisdom to me is knowin’ when to plant your corn and when to stay inside outta the rain. But I guess his wisdom was a different kind, about stars and numbers and magic, whatever that is.
  • Writing: This fella, he loved to write. Wrote everything down, they say. Must have had a lot of paper, or whatever they used back then. Maybe he wrote on rocks, like them cave folks. Anyways, he wrote it all down, everythin’ he knew, in somethin’ they call the “Book of Thoth.”
  • Knowledge: He knew a lot, this Thoth. More than anyone, they claim. But knowledge ain’t no good if you don’t use it, that’s what I always say. I hope he used his knowledge for somethin’ good, like helpin’ folks or makin’ sure the crops grew tall.

The Teachings of Thoth, or so they say

Now, I ain’t never read this “Book of Thoth,” but folks say it’s got all the secrets of the universe in it. Secrets, secrets, everybody’s always talkin’ about secrets. I reckon the biggest secret is just livin’ a good life, bein’ kind to your neighbors, and not stealin’ nobody’s chickens. But Thoth, he had different secrets, about the stars and the moon and how everything works. Sounds complicated to me.

Keepin’ your soul in the light: They say Thoth taught folks to keep their souls in the light. Now, I ain’t sure what that means exactly, but I reckon it means bein’ good, not doin’ bad things. Like cheatin’ at cards or gossiping about your neighbors. That ain’t right. Keepin’ your soul in the light, that sounds like somethin’ my grandma used to say. She always said, “Do right, and right will follow.” Maybe Thoth and my grandma would have gotten along.

Good versus Evil: Then there’s this thing about good and evil. Seems like there’s always a fight goin’ on between good and evil, ain’t there? Thoth, he was in the middle of it, they say. Tryin’ to keep things balanced, like a scale. Not too much good, not too much bad. Just right. Like makin’ a good apple pie, you gotta have the right amount of sugar and the right amount of apples.

Secrets of the Universe: And that “Book of Thoth,” well, they say if you read it, you’d become the most powerful sorcerer in the world. Sorcerer! Sounds like somethin’ outta a fairy tale. I ain’t interested in bein’ no sorcerer. I’m happy just bein’ me, tendin’ my garden and watchin’ the birds fly by. But this book, it makes you wonder what kind of secrets Thoth was writin’ down. Maybe he knew how to make the rain fall whenever you wanted it, or how to grow tomatoes the size of watermelons. Who knows?

What I Reckon

So, this Thoth fella, he sounds like a pretty important guy, even if I don’t understand half the stuff they say about him. Wise, wrote a lot, knew all the secrets. Sounds like a handful to me. But I reckon the important thing is to just try to be good, keep your soul in the light, like they say, and maybe plant a few extra flowers in the spring. That’s wisdom enough for me.

Thoth’s Legacy

Even though Thoth lived a long, long time ago, folks are still talkin’ about him today. That’s somethin’, ain’t it? Means he must have done somethin’ right, or at least written somethin’ interesting. Maybe there’s somethin’ to all them secrets and teachings after all. I don’t know. But I do know that bein’ kind and workin’ hard is a good way to live, no matter what century you’re in. And maybe, just maybe, that’s the kinda wisdom Thoth would appreciate.

Thoth Teachings Explained: Dive into Ancient Egyptian Wisdom

Anyways, that’s what I heard about this Thoth fella. Take it with a grain of salt, like I always say. But he seems like a good egg, even if he is a bit of a mystery.
