Alright, let’s talk about how them old-timers made wine way back when. I ain’t no scholar, mind you, just tellin’ it like I heard it.
Growin’ the Grapes
First off, ya gotta have grapes, right? So, them folks, they’d grow ’em. Took a good long while, I reckon. Sun, rain, and a whole lot of waitin’. They didn’t have no fancy machines, just their own two hands and maybe a mule or two.
Pickin’ and Squishin’
Once them grapes were ripe and ready, they’d pick ’em. Probably a whole bunch of folks out there in the fields, fillin’ up baskets. Then came the fun part – stompin’ ’em! Yep, they’d throw them grapes into big ol’ tubs and stomp ’em with their bare feet. I heard tell they’d even sing and dance while they did it. Guess it made the work go faster. Can you imagine? All them feet squishin’ the juice outta the grapes… Bet it was a sticky mess!
Lettin’ it Sit
Now, after they stomped all them grapes, they’d let the juice sit for a spell. They called it “fermentin’.” Sounded kinda fancy, but it just meant lettin’ the juice turn into wine. They’d put it in big jars or animal skins, whatever they had on hand. Sometimes they’d use big open top vats too. Heard it took a week or two, maybe even longer. They just had to wait and see, kinda like bakin’ a cake. You can’t rush it, ya know?
Different Ways, Same Idea
Now, I heard tell some folks did things a bit different. Like, some would leave them grapes out in the sun to dry a bit before stompin’. Said it made the wine sweeter. And them Romans, they’d stomp the grapes right after they picked them. So there was different ideas on the timing, I guess. Everyone does things a little differently, ain’t that the truth?
- Pickin’ or buyin’ the grapes.
- Lettin’ the grapes rest for a day.
- Squishin’ the grapes with their feet.
- Lettin’ the juice ferment in big tubs or jars.
Stories and Such
There’s all sorts of stories about how wine first got made. I ain’t gonna bore ya with all that, but there’s this one fella, Noah, in the Bible, and they say he was one of the first to make wine. After that big flood, he planted a vineyard and all that. Don’t know if it’s true, but it’s a good story, ain’t it?
From Way Back When ’til Now
And this wine makin’, it’s been goin’ on for a long, long time. Way back in them ancient times, near where them pyramids are, I think. And then it spread all over. Even them Chinese folks, durin’ somethin’ called the Han Dynasty, they started growin’ more grapes and makin’ wine. So it’s been around, this wine business. Folks been enjoyin’ a glass or two for centuries, I reckon.
Simple as That
So that’s pretty much it. Grow the grapes, stomp ‘em, let ‘em sit, and you got wine. Simple as that. Them old-timers, they didn’t have all the fancy stuff we got now, but they knew how to make a good drink. And that’s all that matters, right?
A Good Drink for a Hard Day’s Work
After a long day of workin’ in the fields, I bet a glass of wine was mighty welcome. It probably wasn’t nothin’ fancy, but it was theirs. They made it with their own hands, and that’s somethin’ to be proud of. Nowadays, everything’s so complicated, but sometimes the simple things are the best. Don’t you think so?
