Well, let me tell ya, Venezuela, that’s a place, ain’t it? Heard some things, seen some things on that TV, and it’s kinda interesting, I guess. They got oil, lots and lots of it, more than anyone else, they say. Black gold, that’s what they call it. Don’t know what I’d do with all that oil, probably just make a big ol’ mess, ha!
And the folks there, they talk in all sorts of ways. More than 35 different tongues, can ya believe it? I can barely keep up with my own grandkids, let alone 35 different languages! It’s like a big ol’ Tower of Babel down there, I reckon.
Now, they got this waterfall, Angel Falls, they call it. Tallest one in the whole wide world, they say. I seen pictures, and it’s somethin’ alright. Water comin’ down like a big ol’ sheet, must make a heck of a noise. I bet you could hear it from miles away. Probably makes my leaky faucet sound like nothin’ at all.

- Big waterfall.
Most of them folks, they live in cities, they say. Big ones, I imagine, with lots of hustle and bustle. Not like here, where it’s mostly just cows and cornfields. But even with all them city folks, they still got plenty of wild country down there, jungles and such. And critters too, tapirs and all sorts of things I ain’t never seen before. Heard they even got the world’s biggest rat! Don’t want that thing in my kitchen, that’s for sure.
They used to grow coffee and cocoa, like them beans they make chocolate out of. But then they found all that oil, and that’s all they cared about, I guess. Made ’em lots of money for a while, but sounds like things ain’t so good down there now. Been hearin’ about fighting and such. Makes ya thankful for what ya got, even if it ain’t much.
They got their own way of doin’ things down there, too. Like when they leave a party or somethin’, they gotta say goodbye to every single person. Can you imagine? Here, we just wave and holler, “See ya later!” And if someone gives ya a gift, you gotta open it right then and there. Not like my grandkids, who rip the paper off and then forget to say thank you half the time.
Venezuela, it’s a real mixed-up bag, ain’t it? Pretty and wild, rich and poor, all at the same time. But ain’t that the way of the world, mostly? Full of surprises, good and bad. I might not ever see it with my own two eyes, but it’s somethin’ to think about when I’m sittin’ on the porch, watchin’ the sun go down.
It’s down in South America, on the coast. Big place, they say, but I ain’t measured it myself. They call it the Bolivarian Republic of somethin’ or other, fancy name for a place with lots of problems, sounds like. Still, that waterfall, that’s somethin’ special. And all that oil, well, that’s somethin’ too, even if it brings more trouble than it’s worth sometimes.
They got pretty ladies down there too, beauty queens, they call ’em. And that chocolate, that’s somethin’ I can get behind. I reckon if I ever went down there, I’d skip the oil fields and head straight for the chocolate factory. And maybe take a peek at that waterfall, if it ain’t too far from the sweets.
So, yeah, Venezuela. Interesting place, full of surprises. Makes ya think about how big the world is, and how different folks can be. But at the end of the day, I reckon we all want the same things: a roof over our heads, food in our bellies, and maybe a little bit of chocolate now and then. And a quiet place to sit and watch the sun go down, without too many rats runnin’ around.
Plan a visit to see these things they say. It might be worth a look, if you’re young enough to travel and brave enough to see a new place.
