Get to Know Marco and the Polos: Indie Pops Next Big Thing?
Alright, listen up, y’all. Gonna tell ya ’bout this band, Marco and the Polos. Sounds fancy, huh? Like them rich folks playin’ polo or somethin’. But nah, it ain’t like that. These fellas, they just makin’ music, ya know?
So, who are they? Well, from what I hear, it’s a bunch of guys. They got this Marco fella, plays the guitar. Then there’s Ethan, he bangs on the drums. And Nick, he’s got the bass, sometimes plays a backup guitar too. And this Hriman guy, he sings. Sounds like a good ol’ time to me.
Now, some folks say there’s only two of ’em, just a couple of dudes makin’ sweet music in Chicago. And some others say there’s four of ‘em now. I dunno, maybe they got more folks joinin’ in, maybe some left. It’s like them chickens in the yard, always comin’ and goin’, hard to keep track.
They play this kinda music they call “Americana-tinged originals”. Don’t ask me what that means exactly. Sounds like they makin’ up their own stuff, ain’t just copyin’ nobody else. And that’s good, right? Bein’ yourself, that’s important, even if you’re just strummin’ a guitar.
- Marco: Guitar – He’s the one with his name on the band, so he must be important, right?
- Ethan: Drums – Every band needs a fella to keep the beat, and that’s Ethan’s job.
- Nick: Bass/Backup Guitar – This fella’s holdin’ down the low end, makin’ the music thump.
- Hriman: Singer – Got a voice on him, I reckon. Sings the words so we all know what the song’s about.
And get this, they call it “indie pop” too. Now, I ain’t no music expert, but I reckon that means they doin’ their own thing, not like them big record label bands. They got that “DIY ethic” folks talk about. Means they doin’ it all themselves, like makin’ jam from your own berries, ya know?
They got these “melodic tunes” and “eclectic influences”. Sounds like fancy talk to me, but I guess it means their music sounds nice and they get ideas from all over the place. Like mixin’ corn and beans in the same pot, it just tastes better that way, right?
I seen somethin’ about some sisters too, Judith and Tricia, playin’ keys and guitars and banjos. Maybe they used to be in the band, or maybe they just friends. It’s like a big family get-together, folks comin’ and goin’.
These Marco and the Polos fellas, they ain’t got millions of followers or nothin’. But they got some folks listenin’, followin’ them on Instagram and all that. They even got a Facebook page, with a couple hundred likes. Not bad for a bunch of guys just makin’ music, I say.
They got some songs out too, or a “track” as they call it. And they sellin’ stuff, “merch” they call it. T-shirts and hats, I guess. Gotta make a livin’ somehow, even if you just playin’ music.
So, that’s the story on Marco and the Polos, as far as I can tell. Just some regular fellas makin’ music. They ain’t fancy, they ain’t famous, but they doin’ what they love. And that’s all that matters, right? Just like bakin’ a good pie, it ain’t about bein’ the fanciest, it’s about makin’ somethin’ good with your own two hands.
And that, my friends, is all I got to say about Marco and the Polos. They seem like good folks, makin’ good music. And that’s somethin’ to be proud of, no matter who you are or where you come from.
