Alright, alright, let’s talk about this here…business woman in the Bible, you say? Well, I ain’t no preacher or nothin’, but I’ve heard a thing or two in my time, sittin’ on them hard church pews. Let me tell you what I reckon, the way I see it.
First off, they talk about this Proverbs 31 woman. Proverbs 31, yeah, that’s the one. Says she’s “clothed with strength and dignity.” Now, what does that mean to an old woman like me? It means she’s tough, she’s got grit. She ain’t afraid of hard work, that’s for sure. A real go-getter, you know? Sounds like a businesswoman to me, alright.

They also say somethin’ about workin’. Says even Eve, way back in the beginnin’, was supposed to work. And then there’s this Abraham fella. Now, he wasn’t no woman, but he sure knew how to hustle. Traded livestock, silver, and gold, they say. Had a whole bunch of men workin’ for him. So, workin’ ain’t nothin’ new, see? It’s been around since the get-go.
But if you wanna talk about a real businesswoman in the Bible, a woman who made her own way, you gotta talk about Lydia. Now, I never met Lydia, obviously, but I heard she was somethin’ else. First off, she was over in Europe, which is a far piece from here, I tell ya. And she was the first one over there to become a Christian, they say. Not only that, but she got her whole family on board too.
Now, here’s the kicker: Lydia, she had her own business. They don’t say exactly what she did, but she was sellin’ somethin’, that’s for sure. And she was good at it, too. She even took in this Paul fella and his friends, helped ’em spread the word of God. See, that’s what I call a real businesswoman. She ain’t just makin’ money, she’s doin’ good too. She’s got a good heart, you know?
And then there’s Deborah, a powerful woman. I heard tell she was a leader, and not just any leader, one who followed God’s call. She didn’t do things outta her own strength, but God’s. Reminds me that when we’re facing tough times, we gotta lean on something bigger than ourselves.
So, what can we learn from these women? Well, first off, we gotta be strong. Life ain’t easy, especially for a woman tryin’ to make her way in the world. We gotta have dignity, too. Hold our heads up high, no matter what. And we gotta work hard. Nothin’ comes easy, that’s for sure. But most importantly, we gotta have faith. Trust in God, do what’s right, and he’ll take care of the rest.
And another thing, being a businesswoman ain’t just about makin’ a buck. It’s about doin’ good, too. It’s about helpin’ others, makin’ the world a better place. That’s what I think, anyhow. You can take it or leave it. That’s just the way I see it, plain and simple.
These women, they show us that being a woman of faith and a businesswoman ain’t mutually exclusive. You can do both. You can be strong, successful, and still be a good person. And that, I reckon, is a lesson worth learnin’, no matter who you are.
