Alright, so listen up, y’all. Let me tell you about this thing, this… “cj hendry hoops,” whatever that is. Sounds fancy, huh? Like somethin’ them city folks would go crazy for.
Cj Hendry, now that’s a name you don’t hear ’round these parts. Sounds like one of them fellas who went off to the city and got all uppity. Anyways, this Cj person, she makes art. Art! Can you believe it? Not the kind of art we got ’round here, like them quilts my grandma used to make. No, sir. This is different.
This Cj, she done went and made a “hoops tree.” Yeah, you heard that right. A tree made out of hoops. Basketball hoops, to be exact. Now, I ain’t never seen a basketball game in my life, but I know what a hoop is. Them round things you throw the ball through. Why somebody would wanna make a tree out of ’em, I ain’t got a clue. But hey, city folks is strange.
They say this hoop tree is in Miami. Miami, that’s another one of them fancy places. Full of sunshine and beaches, they say. And basketball, apparently. Seems like they love basketball down there. So, I guess this hoop tree fits right in. A perfect fit, they call it.
This Cj person, she’s an artist, a “renowned contemporary artist.” That’s what they say, anyways. Sounds important, don’t it? “Contemporary,” that’s a big word. Means she makes art for today, I reckon. Not like them old paintings of folks with powdered wigs. This Cj, she uses colored pencils. Yup, pencils! The kind the kids use in school. But she ain’t drawing no apples or houses. She’s drawing hoops, lots and lots of hoops.
- She likes a special kind of pencil, somethin’ called “Caran d’Ache”. Said they’re smooth. I wouldn’t know, I ain’t never used nothin’ fancier than a number two pencil from the dime store.
- And this hoop tree, it ain’t just some temporary thing. It’s gonna stay there. A “permanent public installation,” they call it. That means it ain’t goin’ nowhere. Stuck there for all them city folks to gawk at.
- They even had a big to-do about it. Unveiled it during somethin’ called “Art Basel.” Another fancy city thing. Sounds like a big party to me.
Now, I seen pictures of this hoop tree. It’s tall, real tall. And it’s colorful. All them hoops, different colors, stacked up like, well, a tree. It’s kinda pretty, I gotta admit. But it’s still strange. A tree made out of hoops. Who’d a thunk it?
They say this Cj person is famous for her pencil drawings. Draws all sorts of things, but mostly stuff from everyday life. Shoes, flowers, even crumpled up paper. But now she’s gone and done hoops. Big ol’ basketball hoops. And people are makin’ a fuss over it.
I guess that’s what art is, huh? Makin’ somethin’ outta nothin’. Makin’ somethin’ strange and beautiful. Even if it’s just a bunch of hoops stuck together. This Cj person, she’s got folks talkin’. And that’s somethin’, ain’t it?
So, there you have it. My take on this “cj hendry hoops” thing. Not that I know much about art. But I know what I like. And I reckon this hoop tree, it’s kinda somethin’. A little bit crazy, a little bit beautiful. Just like them city folks, I suppose.
Public Art, that’s what they call it. Art for everybody to see. Not stuck up in some museum where you gotta pay to get in. Nope, this hoop tree is right there in the open, for anyone to look at. That’s kinda nice, ain’t it? Even folks like me, who don’t know nothin’ about art, can appreciate it.
And get this, they even had a contest, something about winning a $1,000. Now that’s some money! I don’t know what for, but a thousand dollars is a thousand dollars. Probably had something to do with this hoops tree thing.
So next time you hear about “cj hendry hoops,” you’ll know what they’re talkin’ about. That crazy hoop tree in Miami. Made by that artist lady who likes colored pencils. It’s a strange world, folks. A strange and wonderful world. And sometimes, the strangest things are the most beautiful.
