Surprising Women Leaders in the Bible and What They Did
Well, lemme tell ya, the Bible, that old book, ain’t just about fellas. There’s some tough women in there too, real go-getters, you know? They weren’t just sittin’ around knittin’ neither. They had gumption, they did. Let me tell you ‘bout some of ‘em.
First off, there’s this woman, Deborah. Judges 4 and 5, that’s where you find her. She wasn’t no pushover, let me tell ya. God, He picked her, not some man. She was a prophet, a judge, even led the men into battle. Imagine that! A woman leadin’ the charge! She wasn’t just givin’ advice, she was strong and wise. Heard God and did what He said. That’s somethin’, ain’t it? She was a leader, plain and simple. Didn’t need no fancy title, just did what needed doin’. God saw her heart, I reckon, and knew she was the one for the job.
Then there’s Miriam. She’s Moses’s sister, you know. A real firecracker, that one. Exodus 15:20 talks about her, singin’ and dancin’ after they crossed that Red Sea. She was a prophet too, hearin’ from God and sharin’ His words. She helped lead the people, not just the women, but everyone. She had her own gifts, you see, and she used ‘em. She wasn’t afraid to speak up, even when things got tough. Showed the people how to praise God and celebrate His victories.
And don’t forget about Esther. That gal was somethin’ else. Her story’s in the book of Esther, if you wanna read it. She was brave, real brave. She risked her own life to save her people. Went to the king, even though she wasn’t supposed to. She used her head, figured out a plan, and stuck to it. She wasn’t a fighter, not like Deborah, but she was a fighter in her own way. Used her smarts and her charm to get things done. Showed that even a queen can be a servant of God.
There’s other women too, lots of ‘em. Like Ruth, so loyal and kind. Stuck with her mother-in-law, Naomi, even when things were hard. And Hannah, prayed and prayed for a son, and God answered her. Then she gave him right back to God, to serve in the temple. That takes some faith, let me tell ya. And Mary, the mother of Jesus. Young gal, probably scared, but she trusted God. Said yes to His plan, even though she didn’t understand it all.

These women, they weren’t perfect, mind you. They made mistakes, just like the rest of us. But they had faith, they had courage, and they had a fire in their bellies. They showed the world that women can be strong, smart, and faithful. They showed that God uses all kinds of people, men and women, to do His work. So next time you hear someone sayin’ women can’t lead, you just tell ‘em ‘bout Deborah, and Miriam, and Esther, and all the rest. They’ll set ‘em straight, they will.
The bible stories show that God used different types of women to do big things. They weren’t always chosen for the same reasons, but all of them did amazing stuff with God’s help. These women weren’t about power for themselves, they used their power to serve God and to serve others. That’s what makes a real leader, I think. Someone who puts others first and follows God’s lead.
So, yeah, the Bible’s got plenty of strong women in it. They ain’t just background characters, they’re front and center, doin’ God’s work. They’re an inspiration, they are. Reminds you that God can use anyone, no matter who you are or where you come from. Just gotta have faith and a willin’ heart.
