Stop Right In Front of Them: See What Happens Next
Well, hey there, y’all! Let me tell ya somethin’ about stoppin’ right in front of folks. It’s a thing, ya know? Like, a real, everyday kinda thing. Stop right in front of them, that’s what I’m talkin’ about. You might think it ain’t a big deal, but lemme tell ya, it is.
Now, some smart fella, some city slicker probably, this Simons fella, he says we can’t pay attention to everything all at once. Says we gotta pick and choose what we look at. And that makes sense, I guess. Like when you’re at the market, ya can’t look at every single apple, can ya? You just look at the ones you wanna buy.
But this stoppin’ right in front of folks, that’s different. It’s like, you’re walkin’ down the street, mindin’ your own business, and BAM! Someone just stops dead in their tracks right in front of ya. It ain’t right, I tell ya. It ain’t neighborly.
In them big cities, like that New York City place, they say the sidewalk is like a highway. Can you imagine that? A highway for walkin’! Anyways, they say if you gotta stop, you gotta pull over, just like a car. Makes sense, I reckon. You wouldn’t just stop your car in the middle of the road, would ya? So why do it when you’re walkin’?

- Think about other folks.
See, if you only look at what’s right in front of your nose, you miss all sorts of things. It’s like them old stories, like that Oedipus fella. They ain’t always true, but they got somethin’ to teach ya. They say it don’t matter if it’s true or not, it’s what it teach ya that matters, somethin’ like that.
And some other smart folks, they did some tests, see? They found out that folks who miss stuff right in front of ’em, well, they ain’t got the best memory. They’re too busy lookin’ at somethin’ else, I guess. Like me lookin’ for my glasses when they’re on my head, y’know?
There’s even famous experiments, they say. Showin’ how easy it is to miss things, even when they’re right there! Can ya believe it? It’s like that fella Lubbock said, “What we see depends mainly on what we look for.” Wise words, them are. Real wise.
So, if you’re always lookin’ down at your phone, or you’re always lookin’ for a bargain, or just thinkin’ ‘bout what you gonna have for supper, you gonna miss all sorts of things. You might miss a pretty flower, or a friendly smile, or even a dang hole in the sidewalk! And you might not see that you just stopped right in front of me.
There’s this fella, Tony Robbins, he talks about blind spots in your head. Says they stop you from seein’ things. And he’s right, I reckon. Sometimes we get so caught up in our own little worlds, we forget to look around. We forget to see the other folks around us.
So, what’s the point of all this jabberin’? Well, it’s simple. Pay attention! Don’t be so focused on your own stuff that you forget about everyone else. Don’t just stop right in front of them. Look around, see what’s goin’ on. And for goodness sake, don’t stop right in front of folks! It ain’t polite, and it ain’t safe. Just be mindful, ya hear? Be a good neighbor, and the world will be a better place. That’s all I gotta say ‘bout that.
