Looking for the Best Places to Visit the Great Wall of China? Look Here
Well, let me tell ya, that Great Wall, it’s somethin’ else, a real sight to see, ya know? Folks keep askin’ me, “Where’s the best place to go see it?” Heck, it’s a long wall, ain’t it? But I’ve heard some things, seen some things, and I’ll tell ya what I know.
First off, lots of folks go to Badaling and Mutianyu. They say it’s real close to Beijing, just a hop, skip, and a jump, maybe 70 kilometers or so. But lemme tell ya, ’cause it’s so close, everybody and their grandma goes there. It gets crowded, real crowded. You’ll be bumpin’ elbows with folks from all over, which ain’t always a bad thing, but sometimes you just want some peace and quiet, ya know?
Now, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ a bit more… special, they say Mutianyu is real popular with the folks from far-off lands. They bring their kids and all, apparently it’s good for the little ‘uns. It’s about 73 kilometers, 45 miles, from Beijing, a bit further than Badaling, but maybe worth it if you don’t want to be packed in like sardines.
But here’s the kicker, if you like walkin’, really walkin’, then Jinshanling is the place to be. They say it’s the prettiest part of the wall, and the best for a good hike. You can even walk from Jinshanling to Simatai or Gubeikou, makes for a good two-day trip, seein’ all sorts of things. Or if you only got a day, you can hike from Jiankou to Mutianyu. That’s what they say, anyway.
- Badaling: Close to Beijing, real easy to get to, but crowded as heck.
- Mutianyu: Also close, popular with foreigners, good for families.
- Jinshanling: The best for hiking, real pretty, but maybe not for the faint of heart.
- Simatai and Gubei Water Town: A bit further out, about 120 kilometers from Beijing, but maybe worth it if you want somethin’ different.
Now, they say Jinshanling is the prettiest, and lots of folks like to hike there. It ain’t like Badaling, where it’s all fixed up and fancy. Jinshanling is a bit more… wild, ya know? More like it used to be, I reckon. And that’s what some folks like. They wanna see the real wall, not some tourist trap.
So, which one’s the best? Well, that depends on what you’re lookin’ for. If you just wanna say you’ve been to the Great Wall and don’t mind the crowds, go to Badaling. If you got kids or you’re comin’ from far away, Mutianyu might be your best bet. But if you want somethin’ special, somethin’ beautiful, and you don’t mind a good hike, then Jinshanling is the place to go. Or Simatai, Gubei Water Town, if you have more time. Heck, there are so many places on that wall, it’ll make your head spin.
But remember this, that wall, it ain’t just a pile of rocks. It’s history, it’s beauty, it’s somethin’ special. And no matter where you go, you’ll be seein’ somethin’ amazing. Just remember to wear good shoes and bring plenty of water, ’cause it’s a long walk, no matter where you go. And don’t forget your camera, ya hear? You’ll want to remember this.
