Just give her some water or light some incense every day, that’s what folks say. And talk to her, tell her what’s on your mind. She listens, they say, even to old folks like me. And maybe, just maybe, she’ll send one of her critters your way, a sign that she’s heard ya. Maybe a black dog will cross your path, or you’ll see a snake slitherin’ in the grass. Or maybe you’ll just feel her presence in the wind, or see her face in the moon.
Hekate’s animals ain’t just pets, mind ya. They’re part of her magic, part of who she is. They’re messengers, protectors, and guides. They help her see into the darkness, and they help her connect with the world around us. And maybe, if we pay attention, they can help us too. So next time you see a black dog, or a snake, or even a red mullet fish, don’t be scared. Just remember Hekate, and know that she’s watchin’ over ya.
