And there was all sorts of other weapons too, things you wouldn’t even think of. Like them morning stars, a big ol’ ball with spikes on a chain. Whack someone with that, and they ain’t gettin’ up. Or them flails, same kinda idea, but with a shorter chain and a heavy bar at the end. You could bash someone’s brains in with that too. And don’t forget them axes, good for choppin’ wood or choppin’ heads, whichever needed doin’ first.
I even heard about folks usin’ regular ol’ farm tools as weapons. A pitchfork in the right hands could be just as deadly as a sword. And a good sturdy shovel? Don’t even get me started. Like they say, anything can be a weapon if you know how to use it. You see somethin’ shaped like a “T”, well, you can use that too! Parry this, poke that, you get the idea.
Picking the Right Weapon
So how did folks pick their weapons? Well, I reckon it depended on what they could afford and what they were good at. If you were a rich knight, you probably had a fancy sword and maybe a lance for jousting. If you were a poor farmer, you probably had a spear or a pitchfork, and maybe a bow if you were lucky. And if you were a sneaky type, maybe you had a dagger or two hid up your sleeve. It all depended on what you needed to get the job done, whether it was fightin’ in a war or just protectin’ your chickens from a fox.
And listen, when you’re writin’ them stories about knights and dragons, you gotta make sure the weapons make sense. You can’t have a fella with a giant hammer fightin’ in a tiny room, right?
