Walk in Her Shoes: A Day with Marie Antoinette at Versailles
Alright, so you wanna know about spendin’ a day with that fancy queen, Marie Antoinette, huh? Well, lemme tell ya, it ain’t gonna be like no day down on the farm, that’s for sure. This gal, she lived in a big ol’ castle, not a shack like mine. They call it Versailles, or somethin’ like that. Sounds fancy, don’t it?
Wakin’ Up Like a Queen
First thing in the mornin’, this Marie, she ain’t gettin’ up with the chickens like I do. Nope. She’s sleepin’ in a big, fluffy bed, prob’ly got more feathers than my whole henhouse. She’d wake up in what they call “sumptuous” surroundings. I ain’t even sure what that word means, but it sounds expensive. Prob’ly lots of gold and fancy doodads everywhere.
She wrote a letter to her ma once, sayin’ somethin’ ’bout wakin’ up. I reckon even queens gotta tell their mamas what they’re up to. Imagine that! This gal, she had folks waitin’ on her hand and foot. Dressin’ her, feedin’ her… I tell ya, it’s a whole different world.
- No milkin’ cows for her!
- No slopin’ the hogs!
- Prob’ly never even seen a chicken up close, ‘cept maybe on a plate.
Walkin’ Around That Big House
Now, this Versailles place, it’s huge! Bigger than anythin’ you ever seen. They got gardens bigger than my whole farm, I betcha. And this Marie, she’d walk around there like she owned the place… well, I guess she kinda did. They say you can still walk in her footsteps today, seein’ the same stuff she saw.
They got tours and tickets and all that nowadays. Prob’ly cost a pretty penny, too. I ain’t got no money for that kinda stuff. I’m too busy tryin’ to keep the farm runnin’. But if you got the cash, you can go see where she hung out, where she played with her kids, and even where she tried to hide when folks got mad at her durin’ that French Revolution thing.
Party Time, Queen Style
This Marie, she liked to have a good time. Not like a barn dance or a fishin’ trip, mind you. She liked fancy parties, what they call balls, with dancin’ and music and all sorts of highfalutin carryin’ on. She was a real queen at court, they say. Always pickin’ out the shows and entertainin’ her friends.
She had this special place, the Petit Trianon, where she could get away from all the fuss and just hang out with her buddies and her kids. Sounds nice, havin’ a place to escape to. But even then, I bet she still had servants bringin’ her snacks and fixin’ her hair. It’s hard to imagine livin’ like that.
A Young Bride Comes to France
They say she was just a young gal, only 14 years old, when she came to France to marry the future king. Can you imagine? Just a kid, really. They brought her over on a boat, and then had this big parade to take her to that big
