Pro Graffiti: Where to Find the Best Street Art?

Alright, alright, let’s gab a bit about this… what’s it called? Ah yes, “pro graffiti.” Sounds fancy, like somethin’ them city folks would say. But to me, it’s just pictures on walls, some pretty, some not so much.

What is this “Pro Graffiti” Anyways?

Now, from what I gather, “pro graffiti” ain’t just any ol’ scribbles. It’s like… the good stuff. The pictures that make you stop and stare, not the ones that make you wanna grab a bucket of paint and cover ’em up. They say it’s art, like them fancy things you see in museums, only outside, on walls and stuff.

  • Some folks do it real big, like coverin’ whole sides of buildin’s.
  • Some do little ones, hidden in alleys and corners.
  • And some, well, they just make a mess, but we ain’t talkin’ ‘bout them today.

Where Did All This Start?

They say it started in big cities, like that New York City place. Imagine that! Folks just startin’ to paint on walls, and now it’s a whole thing. They say some of them painters been doin’ it longer than I been alive, and that’s sayin’ somethin’! Apparently, if you’re a painter, you gotta go to New York and paint somethin’. It’s like a test or somethin’, to prove you’re good. They call it the Big Apple, must be a lot of apples there, or maybe it’s just a name, who knows.

Famous Pictures and Where to Find ‘Em

There’s this fella, Banksy, they talk about. He paints pictures of little girls and balloons and such. One picture, the girl with the balloon, is real famous, they say. It’s in London, across the water from somethin’ called the River Thames. Sounds fancy, huh? I reckon it’s just a river, like the one down the road, only bigger and probably dirtier.

And then there’s other places too, like this Yangon place. They got colorful alleys, full of pictures. And Puerto Rico, San Juan, they got somethin’ goin’ on too. Started it all up in 2010, they did. And Toronto, up in Canada, they even got a place called Graffiti Alley. Can you believe that? A whole alley just for paintin’! Must be nice, not havin’ to worry about the police catchin’ ya.

Is it Good or Bad?

Now, that’s the real question, ain’t it? Some folks say it’s good, makes the city look pretty, brings people together. They say it’s like bringing colors to the boring streets and makes the city alive. They even got organizations and groups for it, tryin’ to make it respectable and all.

But then there’s other folks, like my old man used to say, “It’s just a mess! Vandalism!” He’d say they were just ruinin’ perfectly good walls, makin’ the place look trashy. And I gotta say, sometimes I agree. Some of it just looks like a bunch of squiggles and lines, no rhyme or reason to it.

But then again, some of it is real pretty. Like them pictures of flowers and birds. Or the ones that tell a story, even if I don’t always understand what the story is. It’s like lookin’ at clouds, sometimes you see a dog, sometimes you see a dragon, it all depends on how you look at it.

Sellin’ the Stuff

And guess what? People are sellin’ this stuff now! Like, paintin’ on canvas and sellin’ it for big money. There’s this place online, Catawiki, they call it. You can buy and sell all sorts of art there, including this graffiti stuff. Who woulda thought? Paintin’ on walls and then sellin’ it for a fortune. Crazy world, I tell ya.

So, what do I think?

Well, I reckon it’s like anything else in life. Some good, some bad. Some folks do it for the art, some folks do it just to make a mess. As long as they ain’t paintin’ on my barn, I guess I don’t care too much. But if they do, they better be ready to face my old shotgun! Just kiddin’, mostly. But seriously, they best not be paintin’ on my barn, I just had it repainted last summer and that cost me a pretty penny.

Looking at the Big Picture

Pro Graffiti: Where to Find the Best Street Art?

From what I hear, you can find this “pro graffiti” all over the world, in big cities and small towns. It’s like a secret language, only instead of words, they use pictures. And like any language, some folks speak it better than others. Some folks are poets, some folks are just babbling. It’s up to you to decide what you think is beautiful and what’s just a mess. And it ain’t just about pretty pictures either, it’s about expressin’ yourself, sayin’ somethin’ without havin’ to open your mouth. Maybe them painters got somethin’ important to say, or maybe they’re just havin’ fun. Either way, it’s their way of makin’ their mark on the world, leavin’ somethin’ behind.

So next time you see some pictures on a wall, take a minute to look at it. Maybe you’ll see somethin’ you like, maybe you won’t. But at least you’ll know a little bit more about this “pro graffiti” thing.

And that’s all I gotta say about that. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed the chickens. Them birds get mighty cranky if they don’t get their dinner on time.
