Well, let me tell ya, this here “no bell prize,” or whatever them fancy folks call it, it’s a big deal, y’know? Folks get all worked up about it. Seems like everybody and their dog wants one. But what is it really? Just a bunch of rich folks givin’ out shiny medals, if ya ask me.
What’s the Big Fuss About?
I heard tell it’s supposed to be for folks who do somethin’ real important, like figurin’ out how the world works or makin’ peace. Stuff like that. They got all sorts of prizes, like for chemistry, physics, medicine, peace… Seems like they got a prize for just about anythin’ these days. But some folks, they deserve it, I reckon. They work hard, real hard, and they make a difference.

- Literature
Now, they been givin’ out these here prizes for a long, long time. Started way back in 1901, I heard. And there’s been all sorts of folks winnin’ ’em. Men, women, even some from them foreign countries. First American fella to win one, that was somethin’. Albert somethin’-son, he was. Smart cookie, I guess.
Not Everyone Gets One, Even if They Deserve It
But here’s the thing, not everyone who deserves one gets one. Take that fella, Stephen Hawkin’. Real smart fella, knew all about the stars and such. But he never got one of them prizes. Don’t seem right, does it? And then there’s this other fella, Jean-Paul somethin’. He got one, but he didn’t even want it! Said he didn’t like bein’ “institutionalized.” Whatever that means. Fancy folks and their fancy words, I tell ya.
And sometimes, things get political, y’know? Like that Hitler fella, way back when. He wouldn’t let some German folks take their prizes. Can you believe that? A prize is a prize, ain’t it? Who cares what some politician thinks?
Keepin’ Track of it All
Now, they got these lists, see? They keep track of everyone who’s ever won one of these here prizes. They got ’em all sorted out by year and what they won it for. And they keep addin’ to it every year. Just this year, 2024, they give out a bunch more. Two fellas for medicine, and a couple more for physics. From all over, too. America, the UK, Canada… These prizes, they go all over the world.
It’s a Long List
And the list is long, real long. Thousands of names on it. They even got ways to sort it out, by what kind of prize, if it was a man or a woman… all sorts of stuff. They say it’s always up to date, but I don’t know. That’s a lot of names to keep track of.
So, what does it all mean?
Well, I reckon it means some folks do some real important stuff, and other folks want to give ’em a pat on the back for it. And maybe give ’em a little bit of money, too. But it don’t mean everythin’, y’know? There’s plenty of good folks out there doin’ good work who ain’t never gonna win one of these here prizes. And that’s just fine. They’re still important, even if they don’t got a shiny medal to show for it. It’s like my old pappy used to say, “doin’ good is its own reward”.
The Important Thing is Doin’ Good
So, yeah, this “no bell prize” thing, it’s a big deal to some folks. But the way I see it, the important thing is just tryin’ to do good in the world. Whether you get a prize for it or not. And that’s somethin’ anyone can do, no matter who they are or where they come from.
And that’s all I gotta say about that “no bell prize.” It’s just somethin’ them fancy folks get all worked up about, but down here, we just keep on livin’ and doin’ what we gotta do. Prizes or no prizes.
