Well, let’s talk about this Hecate feast day thing. I heard some folks call it a supper, Hecate’s Supper, yeah, that’s it. Sounds fancy, but don’t you worry, it ain’t that complicated. It’s just a day, or night I guess, when you give some food to this Hecate. Who’s Hecate? Don’t rightly know, some kind of powerful lady I reckon.
Now, some folks say you gotta do this on a new moon. Others say it’s on her special day, her feast day. And then there’s talk about doing it on a full moon Saturday. Too much fuss if you ask me. Just pick a day that feels right, that’s what I say. Hecate feast day, Hecate’s Supper, Deipnon, whatever you call it, it’s all about giving her some grub.
So, what do you give her? Well, I heard tell of all sorts of things. Bread, that’s a good one. Everybody likes bread. Cheese too. Little cakes, those are nice. Eggs, fruit, them pom-a-granites, roses, gourds, garlic, onions, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, and almonds. That’s a whole heap of stuff! You don’t need all that, just pick a few things. Maybe some bread, some cheese, and an apple. That’ll do just fine. Remember, it’s the thought that counts. Hecate don’t need fancy, just good stuff from the heart.
- Bread
- Cheese
- Small cakes
- Eggs
- Fruits
- Pomegranates
- Roses
- Garlic
- Onions
Now, how do you do it? Easy peasy. You get yourself a plate, a nice one if you got it, but any plate will do. Put the food on the plate. Then, you find a place for it. Some folks make a special place, an altar they call it. They put candles and lanterns and all sorts of things on it. Herbs and such. But you don’t need all that. Just put the plate somewhere safe, maybe outside, maybe on a windowsill. Just make sure the dog don’t get it!
Then you gotta say somethin’. A prayer, they call it. You don’t gotta get all flowery. Just talk to Hecate. Tell her you’re giving her this food. Ask her for somethin’ if you want. Protection, that’s a good one. Or maybe just thank her for being there. Somethin’ like, “Hecate, here’s some food for ya. Keep them bad spirits away, will ya? And thank ya kindly.” That’s good enough.
I heard some folks like to do this with friends. That sounds like fun. Everybody brings somethin’ to eat, and you all share it with Hecate. You can light some candles, if you want, make it all pretty. Talk about what you wanna let go of from the past year and what you want for the new year. Good riddance to bad rubbish, I always say. And welcome the good stuff. It’s a way to get together and think about things, you know?
And don’t forget, this ain’t just about food. It’s about showin’ respect. It’s about connectin’ with somethin’ bigger than yourself. Whether you’re a beginner or you’ve been doin’ this for years, it don’t matter. Just be sincere. That’s what counts. And hey, if you mess up, don’t worry about it. Hecate ain’t gonna smite ya. She’s a powerful lady, yeah, but I reckon she’s a kind one too.
This Hecate ritual, or whatever you wanna call it, this Hecate’s Supper ritual, it’s a good way to bring some good into your life. It’s a way to feel connected to somethin’ ancient and powerful. It’s a way to ask for help and give thanks. And who don’t need a little help and a little somethin’ to be thankful for? So go ahead, give it a try. What’s the worst that could happen? You waste a little food? Big deal. You get some good food too, and maybe a little peace of mind. And that’s worth more than all the gold in the world, I tell ya.
Remember, keep it simple. Don’t go getting all worked up about it. Hecate devotion, that’s what this is all about. Just a little somethin’ to show you care. And maybe, just maybe, she’ll care right back. This powerful goddess, she deserves some respect, and this is a good way to show it. So light a candle, say a prayer, and give her some supper. You’ll feel better for it, I guarantee it. That’s the way I see it, anyhow.
