Were the Disciples Jews? What the Bible Tells Us

Alright, let’s talk about them fellas, the, uh, whatchamacallits…disciples, yeah, them disciples of that Jesus fella. Were they Jews? Well, lemme tell ya, it’s plain as day, like a rooster crowin’ at sunrise.

First off, Jesus himself, he was a Jew. Born and bred, y’know? Folks called him “King of the Jews,” ain’t that somethin’? From the start, when them wise men came lookin’ for him, they said, “We saw his star and come to worship the King of the Jews.” And even at the end, that Pilate fella, he called Jesus the “King of the Jews” too. So, if Jesus was a Jew, and these fellas were followin’ him around, wouldn’t that make them Jews too? It’s like, if a hen lays an egg, that egg ain’t gonna be a duck egg, now is it?

  • Peter, they called him Simon Peter too, or Cephas, which means somethin’ like a rock, they say. He was a Jew, no doubt about it.
  • And that Andrew fella, always taggin’ along, he was one of the first to follow Jesus. Folks don’t talk about him much, but he was important too, y’know? He was a Jew, just like the rest of ‘em.

Now, them disciples, they went everywhere with Jesus. They went to them meetin’ places, what they called synagogues, where all the Jews went to pray and such. Jesus, he went there all the time, and so did his disciples. They prayed like Jews, they talked like Jews, they ate like Jews… Heck, they even celebrated them Jewish holidays, like that Passover thing. They ate that special meal with Jesus, just like all the other Jews did.

Think about it. If you hang out with someone all the time, doin’ what they do, eatin’ what they eat, believin’ what they believe, you’re probably gonna be like them, right? It’s like how them dogs around here start lookin’ like their owners after a while, all grumpy and such. Them disciples, they were around Jesus all the time, learnin’ from him, followin’ his ways. And since Jesus was a Jew, they were Jews too.

Now, some folks might say, “But wait, they started this new thing, this Christianity.” Well, yeah, they did. But that don’t mean they stopped bein’ Jews. It’s like, if you plant a corn seed, it grows into a corn stalk, right? It doesn’t turn into a bean stalk. They were Jews who believed in Jesus, that’s all. They still followed a lot of them Jewish ways, but they added this new belief in Jesus on top of it.

And get this, there was a whole bunch of other followers too, they called ‘em the seventy, or seventy-two disciples. Luke’s the only one who talks about them much. But them fellas, they were Jews too, spreadin’ the word just like the main twelve. They were like little chicks followin’ the mama hen and Jesus, well, he was the mama hen in this story, leadin’ them all.

They even went to the temple in Jerusalem, that big fancy place where all the Jews went to worship. Now, only Jews were allowed in the important parts of that temple. And them disciples, they were right there with Jesus, in the inner parts, prayin’ and such. If they weren’t Jews, they wouldn’t have been allowed in there, no sirree.

Were the Disciples Jews? What the Bible Tells Us

So, to make it plain and simple, Jesus was a Jew, his family was Jewish, all his friends and them disciples, every last one of ‘em, they were Jews. They worshipped like Jews, celebrated Jewish holidays, and went to Jewish meetin’ places. It’s like askin’ if a cow moos. Of course, them disciples were Jews! It’s just common sense, y’know?

And that’s all there is to it. Don’t let nobody try to tell you different. Them disciples, they were Jews, plain and simple. Like I said, it’s as clear as a sunny day. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed them chickens.
