Medieval Demons: Separating Fact from Fiction in the Dark World of Folklore
Hey there, let me tell you somethin’ ’bout them medevil demons. You know, them nasty critters folks talked about back in the day. They say demons are real bad, like, the worst kinda bad you can think of. They ain’t nice like angels, no sir. They’re more like the opposite. Mean, nasty, and always causin’ trouble.
Folks used to say these demons, they could get into your head. Make you do bad things. It was all over the place, stories and such about these demons, you couldn’t go nowhere without hearin’ about them. Even had them in the picture shows and games, not just in the old stories. They was everywhere in the medevil times, them demons. In them old stories, in the church, even in them fancy books.
Now, there’s a big difference, they say, ‘tween devils and demons. See, demons, they’re just a mess. Devils, though, they got rules, kinda. Like a bad guy with a code, you know? And they got different languages, too. Demons got this Abyssal talk, and devils, they speak and write that Infernal stuff. Fancy words for bad talk, I reckon. Demons come from some place called The Abyss, sounds awful. Devils, they from a place called The 9 Rings of Hell. Sounds even worse!
- Demons are bad news.
- Devils are bad news with rules.
- They both from bad places.
Then there was this one fella, Mephisto-somethin’. A real big shot demon, I guess. They had all kinds of names for these things. People back then, they really believed in all this. They thought demons were everywhere, tryin’ to lead you down the wrong path. Said they could look like pretty ladies, or scary monsters, whatever it took to trick ya.
Medevil demons was a big deal, you see. Folks was scared of ’em. They said demons were fallen angels, used to be good but went bad. And they was always tryin’ to get folks to do bad things, turn away from the good lord. They was like the boogeyman, but worse. They was in everything back then.
You ever hear about them elves? Well, in the medevil times, folks was scared of them too. They had all these crazy stories about what the elves would do, much like the demons. But that is a story for another time. Everyone was scared of somethin’.
This one book I heard about, talks all about them demons and angels in the medevil times. Says they thought demons were real, just like you and me, but you couldn’t see ’em. Weird, huh? But that’s what they thought. They had all these ideas about ’em, how they worked, what they did. It was a whole thing, I tell ya. They sure did have some strange thoughts.
Then there was this other thing, called “nigromancia.” Sounds fancy, but it just means “black magic.” They changed the word over time, but it’s all the same thing. Bad stuff, tryin’ to mess with things you ain’t supposed to. Like talkin’ to the dead or somethin’. They thought demons was involved in all that, too. Bad juju, that’s what it was.
Every place, every people, they got their own ideas about good and bad. And most of ’em got somethin’ like demons, somethin’ that represents the bad. It’s just part of life, I guess. You got the good, you got the bad. And in the medevil times, the bad was often them demons. They was the explanation for everything bad that happened.
They had all these stories, myths, legends, whatever you wanna call ’em. All about fantastic things, demons and such. They was tryin’ to make sense of the world, I reckon. And demons, they was a big part of that. They was in everything, them stories. In their lives. These stories had meaning to the folks back then.
- Demons were everywhere in the stories.
- Folks used them to explain bad things.
- They was scared of ’em, real scared.
So, yeah, medevil demons, they was a big deal. Scary, nasty things that folks thought was real. They was in their stories, their beliefs, their lives. They was the bad guys, the reason for everything bad. And they was everywhere, or so they thought. It was a different time, that’s for sure. They had different ideas about things. But one thing’s for sure, them demons, they was a big part of it. A big, scary part.
You wouldn’t want to meet one, I tell ya that much. No sir, you wouldn’t. Them medevil demons, they was somethin’ else. Somethin’ real bad.
