Collector lamp care and maintenance guide. Keep your treasure
This old lady, I tell ya, I got this lamp. It ain’t just any lamp, it’s a collector lamp. Shines real nice, but gets dusty, you know? Gotta keep it clean, or it won’t be worth nothin’.
My neighbor, she’s got one too. Hers is all fancy, got them little dangly things. Mine’s simpler. But they both collector lamps. She told me, gotta know what kinda lamp you got before you go cleanin’ it. Makes sense, I reckon. Like, you wouldn’t wash your best dress in the same water as your muddy boots, right?
So, this collector lamp, it’s special. Not just any old thing you find at the market. People like to buy ’em, collect ’em, like them baseball cards my grandson’s got. But these lamps, they’re prettier. And useful! Not like them cards just sittin’ there.
You gotta be careful with these things. They ain’t like them new lamps. These collector lamps, they’re old. Some older than me! And that’s sayin’ somethin’.
- First thing, you gotta dust it.
- Just a soft cloth, nothin’ fancy.
- Gotta get in all them little spaces.
- If it’s real dirty, might need a little somethin’ more.
My neighbor, she uses some special cleaner. Says it’s made for these old collector lamps. I just use a little soapy water. Works fine, long as you’re careful. Don’t want no water gettin’ where it shouldn’t.
These old lamps, they got a story, I bet. Wish they could talk, tell us where they been. Who owned ’em before. Musta seen a lot, in all their years. This collector lamp of mine probably light up some fancy parlor. Or maybe it was on some old farm house.
Now, if you got one of these collector lamps, you gotta take care of it. Keep it nice. Don’t want it gettin’ broke. Then it ain’t worth nothin’. Like an old, cracked bowl. Nobody wants that.
I remember one time, I saw a lamp, looked just like mine. ‘Cept it was all busted up. Sad, really. Someone didn’t take care of it. Probably didn’t know it was a collector lamp. Should have known better.

My grandson, he says these lamps are worth a lot of money. Says people search for ’em. They want a certain kind. He calls it a “model” or somethin’. I don’t know about all that. I just know it’s a pretty lamp. And it’s mine, this collector lamp.
If you’re thinkin’ of gettin’ one of these collector lamps, you best learn how to take care of it. It ain’t hard. Just gotta be careful, that’s all. And don’t be usin’ no harsh cleaners. Just a little soap and water, if it needs it.
Sometimes I just sit and look at my lamp. This collector lamp is like an old friend. Been with me a long time. Seen a lot of things. Hope it’ll be around for a lot longer. Maybe my grandson will want it someday. He seems to like these old things. He knows its a real collector lamp.
One time, a man came to the door. Said he was buyin’ old lamps. Asked if I had any. I showed him my collector lamp. He looked at it real close. Said it was a nice one. Offered me some money for it. But I said no. It ain’t for sale.
He understood. Said he collected lamps too. Collector lamps, just like mine. Said he had a whole room full of ’em. Must be somethin’, to have a whole room full of these pretty things. But one is enough for me. This one collector lamp, right here.

- They might pay a lot of money.
- But mine’s not for sale. This collector lamp is staying here.
My neighbor, she says I should get my lamp “appraised.” Says that means findin’ out how much it’s worth. I don’t know about all that. Don’t matter how much it’s worth. It’s my collector lamp. And I’m keepin’ it.
It’s gettin’ late. Time to turn on the lamp. My collector lamp, it gives a nice, warm light. Makes the whole room feel cozy. Just like a warm hug. Yep, that’s my lamp. And I wouldn’t trade it for nothin’. Nothin’ at all.
