Hey there, let me tell you, I been hearing folks askin’, what was Ethiopia called in the bible? Well, I ain’t no bible scholar, but I heard a thing or two in my time. Seems like that place, Ethiopia, it’s been around since way back when, even in them bible days.
They used to call it somethin’ different, though. Heard it called Cush a whole bunch in that old book. Yeah, Cush, like that fella in Genesis. Folks say Cush was one of them sons of Ham, and Ham was a son of Noah, you know, the one with the big boat. So we’re going way, way back.
Now, this Cush place, it weren’t just Ethiopia. I reckon it was bigger, stretched out more. Seems like it covered what we call Sudan today, too. That whole area down there, south of Egypt. Egypt, you know, that place with the pyramids. They’s always talkin’ about Egypt in the bible, too. Mizraim, they called it sometimes.
So, in the bible, you see Cush mentioned all over the place. In the Old Testament, specially. They got Isaiah, Ezekiel, Jeremiah, all them fellas talkin’ about it. Seems like it was a pretty important place back then, even though they didn’t have no fancy cars or nothin’. Just camels and donkeys, I suppose.
Here’s some things I remember hearin’:
- Genesis 2:13, that’s where they first mention it, talkin’ about a river going around the whole land of Cush. That Garden of Eden, you know?
- Isaiah, he talks about Cush a lot. He’s one of them prophets.
- Ezekiel, he mentions it too, along with Egypt.
- Jeremiah, he’s another one of them prophet fellas who talked about Cush.
Now, some folks say Ethiopia is the same as Nubia and Aksum. Those are old names, too, I reckon. And this Ethiopia, it’s got its own bible, did you know that? They call it the Ethiopian Tewahedo Bible. It’s real old, written in some language called Ge’ez and Amharic. Sounds fancy, don’t it? This bible’s got a whole heap of books, more than our regular bible. 81 books, they say! And then they got a bigger one with even more, like 9 more on top of that!
People are always saying ethiopia bible, ethiopia bible. But I think most of the time it is Cush. I’m not that familiar with bible. But I think I heard about it in church.
Another thing, the bible, it sometimes calls that whole area the “Land of Ham“. Guess that’s ’cause Cush was Ham’s son. Seems like that Land of Ham, it covered a good chunk of North Africa, not just Ethiopia and Sudan.
And you know what? I heard that, back in those days, Nigeria, they didn’t even have a name for it. Different folks lived there, but no one big name for the whole place. Different times, I guess.
One more thing I heard, in the King James Bible, they say that word “Ethiopia” 45 times. 45! That’s a lot, ain’t it? But you gotta remember, back then, they mighta meant somethin’ a bit different when they said Ethiopia. Mighta meant that whole Cush area.
There is also a queen of the Ethiopians, her name is Candace. She is in the Bible too. There is a man who works for her, a eunuch. I don’t know what is a eunuch, but he works for the queen, so he must be important.
There’s a lot of history in the bible. The Bible is an old book, so it can tell us many things about the past. We can know what Ethiopia was called in the past. It was called Cush.
So, there you have it. That’s what I know about what they called Ethiopia in the bible. It’s mostly Cush, from what I gather. But it’s a big, old story, and I’m sure there’s more to it than I can tell you. Just remember, the bible’s been around a long, long time, and it’s got a lot of stories about a lot of places, includin’ that place we call Ethiopia today.
Hope that makes sense. It’s a lot to remember, all them old names and places. But it sure is interestin’, ain’t it? I think it is very interesting. You can learn a lot from the bible if you really look into it.
