Hey there, you wanna know about names of ladies hats? I heard some young folks talkin’ ’bout it the other day. Well, I don’t know much ’bout fancy stuff, but I do know a thing or two ’bout hats. Keeps the sun outta your eyes, or keeps ya warm in the winter. That’s what I always say.
Hats for Ladies
There are lots of names of ladies hats. Some of them are just silly if you ask me. But I guess everybody’s got their own style. Some of the hat names are just hard to keep in mind. But, I know some.
- That Pillbox hat – It is small, round, and doesn’t do much. Just sits on your head like a decoration or something. Saw a lady wearin’ one of those at church once. She looked like she had a little plate on her head!
- That Baker Boy Cap – I think those young fellas wear those. They look kinda like a man’s hat to me, but what do I know? They say it was popular a long long time ago.
Folks used to wear hats all the time. Now, not so much. Except for them baseball caps. Everyone wears those. Even the ladies. They come in all sorts of colors now, too. Not just plain blue or red like they used to.
These days, the young ones, they wear those hats that cover your whole head, like a sock. They call ’em beanies, I think. They keep you warm. They wear ’em even when it’s hot out. Don’t make much sense to me, but they seem to like ’em. I guess they can use them to cover their messy hair. I am not sure.
You know, back in my day, ladies used to wear those big floppy hats when they were out in the sun. They are good for protectin’ your skin, I reckon. The brim was so wide it could cover your whole face. You need those when you’re out in the field workin’ all day. Now they just wear ’em to the beach, I guess. Those hats are really big. Sometimes they have ribbons and flowers on ’em.
Then there’s those straw hats. Good for the garden. Keep the sun off your neck. We used to wear those all the time when we were workin’ outside. There is a kind called Boater hat, made of straw. Not sure why they call it that, but that’s what I heard.
More About Hats
There’s also those Fascinators. Those are just silly. They are like little decorations for your head. They don’t keep the sun out or keep ya warm. They say those fancy folks used to wear those all the time. Rich folks, ya know. Not my style, but to each their own, I always say.
The size of the hat’s crown is different for men and women. You see, the crown is the part that goes around your head. Women’s hats, they got a smaller crown than men’s. Usually, about 3 or 4 inches, I think they said. Men’s are bigger, more like 4 or 5. Don’t know why, it’s just the way it is, I suppose.
They also used to call those tall hats top hats or high hats. Or even cylinder hats. Lots of names for the same thing, seems like. Rich folks used to wear those, too. Looked like a stovepipe on their head! Never did understand that fashion. They even call them “dandies“, seems like too many names.
A lot of names of ladies hats. More than I can recall right now. But it seems everybody needs different types of hats. Multi-style is what they say, I guess. I think people just want to have a lot of choices.
There are so many styles now. Different designs. These young people know all the names. They’re always talkin’ ’bout the latest trends in ladies hats. I just like a simple hat that does its job. But, if you like all those fancy names of ladies hats, then that’s all right, too. There’s really a hat for everyone. It’s just a matter of what you like, I suppose.
