Best C.S. Lewis Books for You (Find Your Perfect Read – Fiction or Non-Fiction!)
Okay, so I’ve been meaning to get into C.S. Lewis for ages, right? Guy’s a legend, but figuring out where to start with his books can be a bit of a head-scratcher. So, I finally decided to just dive in and figure out what all the fuss is about. I started by doing a bit of digging online, trying to find a list of his “best” books. No easy task, let me tell you, everyone’s got their own opinions, and there are a lot of books to choose from!
I found a few articles and lists, and I noticed some books kept popping up. There’s this one called “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” which is apparently a classic, especially for kids. Then there’s “The Screwtape Letters” which sounds kind of interesting, and something called “The Problem of Pain” which, to be honest, sounds a bit heavy but important. And another one is “Till We Have Faces”, which is apparently Lewis’s own favorite, a retelling of the Cupid and Psyche myth. It must be good if the author himself rates it so highly!
I figured, what better way to decide than to just try them out? I started with “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” because, hey, it’s a classic, and it’s part of a series called “The Chronicles of Narnia”. I gotta say, it’s easy to see why it’s so popular. It’s a fun, imaginative story, and I can see why kids love it. But it’s not just for kids, there’s definitely stuff in there for adults too.

This one was a great starting point. Easy to read, super engaging, and it really transported me to another world. Plus, it got me hooked on the Narnia series, so that’s a win.
After Narnia, I decided to try “The Screwtape Letters”. It’s totally different, written as a series of letters from a senior demon to his nephew. It’s clever, thought-provoking, and honestly, a bit unsettling at times. But in a good way! It really makes you think about good and evil, temptation, and all that jazz.
And last but not the least, I read “Till We Have Faces”, and wow, Lewis was right, this book is incredible. The story is just so captivating, and the way it explores themes of love, beauty, and sacrifice is just mind-blowing. I can totally see why it’s considered one of his best. Oh, and I also came across this book called “Becoming Mrs. Lewis” by Patti Callahan. It’s a historical fiction about Joy Davidman, who became C.S. Lewis’s wife. I haven’t read it yet, but it’s definitely on my list now.
So, yeah, that’s my C.S. Lewis journey so far. I’ve only scratched the surface, I know, but it’s been a fun ride. I feel like I’m finally starting to understand why people love his work so much. He’s got a way of making you think about big ideas, but he does it in a way that’s not preachy or boring. And his stories, man, they really stick with you. I’m definitely going to keep exploring his books, and I’d recommend anyone else to do the same. You won’t regret it!
