Props for Alice in Wonderland: Get the Perfect Look Today

Okay, so today I wanted to do something a little different and fun. I’m a huge fan of “Alice in Wonderland,” and I thought it would be cool to make some props for a themed party or just for some fun photos. I had to look up some stuff online, and it seemed easy enough, so I just went for it.

First, I gathered all the materials. I already had some cardboard lying around from old boxes, which was perfect. I also needed some paint, brushes, scissors, and glue. For the teacups and teapot, I found some old ones at a thrift store that I could use. They were a bit dusty, but nothing a good cleaning couldn’t fix. I also grabbed some foam sheets from a craft store for the playing cards.

Making the Props

I started with the easier stuff, like the “Drink Me” and “Eat Me” labels. I just printed out some fancy fonts from my computer, cut them out, and glued them onto some small bottles and cookie jars I had. That was pretty simple and turned out really cute.

  • Printed out labels with fancy fonts.
  • Cut out the labels.
  • Glued the labels onto bottles and jars.

Next, I tackled the playing cards. I cut out large rectangles from the cardboard and painted them white. Then, I used red and black paint to make the hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades. It was a bit time-consuming to get the shapes right, but totally worth it in the end. I also made a giant Queen of Hearts card, which was super fun. It took forever to dry, though. I added some glitter to the Queen of Hearts card to make it extra fancy.

  • Cut out large rectangles from cardboard.
  • Painted them white.
  • Used red and black paint for the card suits.
  • Made a giant Queen of Hearts card.

For the Mad Hatter’s hat, I used a big piece of cardboard and rolled it into a cylinder. I secured it with lots of tape and then covered it with some green fabric I had from an old project. I added a “10/6” tag, just like in the book, and stuck some colorful feathers on it. It looked pretty awesome if I do say so myself.

  • Secured it with tape.
  • Covered it with green fabric.
  • Added a “10/6” tag and colorful feathers.

The teacups and teapot were the most challenging. I wanted them to look old and whimsical, so I painted them with pastel colors and then added some gold accents to make them look fancy. After they dried, I glued them onto a large piece of cardboard that I had painted to look like a table. I also added some fake flowers and moss around them to give it that “tea party in the garden” vibe.

  • Added gold accents.
  • Glued them onto a cardboard “table.”
  • Added fake flowers and moss.

The Final Touches

Finally, I made some signs with quotes from the book, like “We’re all mad here” and “Curiouser and curiouser!” I used some old picture frames and painted the backgrounds. Then, I wrote the quotes with a white paint marker. I also created some oversized keys using cardboard and gold paint, and they looked pretty cool hanging from the ceiling. They kept falling off, which was a pain, but I eventually got them to stay put.

It took me a couple of days to get everything done, but it was so worth it. The props looked amazing, and I had so much fun making them. I ended up having a little photoshoot with my friends, and the pictures turned out great. We felt like we were actually in Wonderland! I definitely recommend trying this out if you’re a fan of the story or just love DIY projects. You can let your imagination run wild and make some truly unique props. I think my next project will be a life-sized Cheshire Cat grin.
