Explore High Desert Commons: Your Go-To Destination for Shopping and More
The other day, I went out to Apple Valley, CA, looking for some good places to shop. I started my day driving down the iconic Route 66. What a classic road, huh? It’s always cool to think about all the history there.
After cruising for a bit, I pulled into this shopping center called Apple Valley Commons. It was pretty big, with a lot of the usual stores you see around. I browsed around for a bit, nothing too special, but it was a nice place to stretch my legs.

- Arrived at Apple Valley Commons for some shopping
- Browsed around, and found it to be a typical, but pleasant shopping center
Later, I heard about this place called High Desert Gateway West over in Hesperia. It’s supposed to be the main shopping spot in the city, right off the I-15 freeway on Main Street. Sounded promising, so I drove over there. This place was buzzing! Lots of shops and places to eat. I grabbed a bite and walked around some more. They had some unique stores, which was a nice change from the usual stuff.

Exploring the High Desert
The whole area around there is called the “High Desert.” I learned it’s because it’s pretty high up, like 4,000 feet above sea level! They don’t get much rain, which is why it feels so dry.
Besides shopping, I found out there’s a lot of history in the High Desert, like the Calico Ghost Town. I didn’t have time to visit this trip, but it’s on my list for next time.
- Learned about the High Desert’s high elevation and dry climate
- Discovered historical spots like the Calico Ghost Town
All in all, it was a good day exploring the High Desert. I got some shopping done, ate some good food, and learned a bit about the area. I’ll definitely go back to explore some more, especially since 2023 might be a good year for travel, as I heard from somewhere. Maybe I’ll start planning early to budget for it. You never know what quirky things you might find just beyond the usual tourist spots, right?
- Reflected on a successful day of shopping, eating, and learning
- Considered returning to explore more, possibly in 2023
- Thought about the benefits of early planning for travel
