I thought that had a nice ring to it, made me wanna try it out even more.
Next, I looked up a tutorial ‘cause, hey, who wants to spend hours reading a rulebook? And I found this one which is pretty helpful. It showed me the basics of how to set up my army, move my units, and get into some good ol’ fashioned skirmishes. They even mentioned something about playing as the Romans or the Han dynasty, which sounded pretty cool to me.
Then I got my hands on the game itself. I gotta say the whole thing felt pretty neat and tidy. Setting up the game was a breeze. I quickly built my army, placed my tiles, and before I knew it, I was ready to throw down. It’s not every day you find a war game that doesn’t take hours to figure out!
The actual gameplay? Smooth. Like, really smooth. You’re moving your units around, trying to outsmart your opponent, and secure key locations. And it all happens pretty fast. You’re not gonna be sitting there for hours waiting for your turn. No, sir, this game keeps you on your toes!
I played a few rounds, trying out different armies and strategies. And you know what? I had a blast. It’s the kind of game you can play over and over again without getting bored. It’s got that “just one more game” kind of vibe, you know?
But here’s the kicker, and this is where I got a bit bummed: it seems like it’s out of stock in a lot of places. At least, that’s what the tag “Out of stock” suggests when I was looking to see where to buy it. Bummer, right? But hey, if you ever see this game on a shelf, or maybe you’re lucky enough to snag a copy, give it a go. You might just find yourself hooked, like I did.
So, yeah, that’s my little adventure with “Battalion: War of the Ancients”. It’s a quick, fun, and engaging little war game that I definitely recommend. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go see if I can find another game that scratches that same itch.
