Alright, so, the other day, I decided to get into something a bit different – graffiti. Not just any graffiti, though. I’m talking about the “crook and crome” style. I had heard about this local Miami artist, Crome, who’s apparently a big deal in the graffiti scene down there. I don’t know much about graffiti, but I thought, “Why not give it a shot?”
First, I got myself some spray cans. I went with bright colors, ’cause that’s what I saw in the pictures of Crome’s work. Then, I found this wall in an alley that looked like it could use some life. I mean, it was just begging for some color, right?
- Got the gear: Checked.
- Found a wall: Checked.
I started by sketching out some designs on paper. I tried to copy some of the stuff I saw online, those wild letters and shapes that Crome does. It looked way easier in the pictures. My sketches were kind of wonky, but hey, I’m no artist. After a few tries, I felt brave enough to start on the wall.
Spraying was a whole other beast. The paint went everywhere, and my lines were all over the place. It was messy, and I definitely made a fool of myself a few times. People walking by gave me weird looks, but I just kept at it. I tried to do some of those “mouthful of crome” designs I read about, but man, it’s harder than it looks.
After a few hours, I stepped back to look at my “masterpiece.” It was… something. Definitely not like the stuff you see in a museum, like that Museum of Graffiti in Miami where they showcase Crome’s work. But you know what? It was fun. I felt like a teenager again, doing something rebellious. And the wall, well, it wasn’t just a boring old wall anymore.
My Takeaway
This whole graffiti thing, especially trying to do it like Crome, it’s not easy. There’s a reason why these artists are famous. But it’s a cool way to express yourself, even if you’re not good at it. I might try it again sometime, maybe practice more on paper first. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll be creating my own style, just like Crome did back in the ’90s in Miami. Until then, I’ll just keep appreciating the art and the effort it takes to make it.
