Okay, so I’ve been digging into this whole 1920s Art Deco furniture thing, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride!
First off, I started by just looking at pictures online. I mean, who doesn’t love a good visual, right? I was just scrolling through tons of images, trying to get a feel for what this style is all about. And the word that kept popping into my head was “glamorous.” Seriously, this stuff is fancy!
Then, I started to read up a bit more on it. Turns out, this Art Deco thing was huge back in the day, like the big trend. People were all about those sleek lines and geometric shapes after using all that dark wood. And they started using new stuff like chrome and mirrors that could be made on a bigger scale. Pretty cool, huh?
What I Noticed
- Shapes, shapes, and more shapes: I saw a lot of triangles, zigzags, and this cool sunburst thing. It’s like someone went wild with a geometry set, but in a good way!
- Shiny and new: Lots of chrome and mirrors. This stuff wasn’t your grandma’s dusty old furniture, that’s for sure.
- Fancy factor: I read somewhere that Art Deco was considered all futuristic back then, but it made me think of old Hollywood movies, which is, I think, so great. It’s got that “extra” vibe, you know?
So, after collecting all these images and reading up on it, I decided to try and find some examples in real life. I hit up a few antique stores in my area. It was tough, and I had to dig deep, but I found a couple of pieces that might be the real deal. One was this amazing vanity with a huge round mirror and these geometric drawer pulls. It was a bit out of my price range, but it was great to see it in person. Another one was a side table, with these cool triangle inlays, it’s really amazing! I decided to buy the side table.
I’m definitely not an expert on this stuff, but it’s been fun to learn about. I’m thinking about maybe trying to incorporate a little bit of that Art Deco vibe into my own place. Maybe a sunburst mirror or a lamp with some cool geometric details? We’ll see! I need to find a good one first! It’s a long project, but a good journey. Anyway, that’s my little adventure into the world of 1920s Art Deco furniture. Hope you enjoyed it!
