What is the Order of the Seraphim? Simple Guide and Overview for Beginners!

Okay, so, I got this idea stuck in my head about the “order of the seraphim.” Sounds fancy, right? I figured I’d give it a shot and see what all the fuss was about. I started digging around, just to get a feel for what these seraphim are all about.

First off, I found that this whole thing is tied to some Swedish order of chivalry, the Royal Order of the Seraphim, dreamed up by King Frederick I back in 1748. Seems like it was a big deal, created alongside a couple of other orders, the Order of the Sword and the Order of the Polar Star. Pretty cool, but that’s not exactly what I was after, I wanted to get to the angel part. So, I kept digging, you know how it is when you get curious about something.

Then I found out that these seraphim are supposed to be these super devoted, loving angels. But here’s the kicker, I read that they’re actually second in command, not the top dogs. The Archangels are apparently the head honchos, which kind of surprised me. I always thought seraphim were number one. You learn something new every day. I put this information into practice right away.

I dove into some old texts, and it turns out these seraphim are way up there in the angel hierarchy, like the top rank in the Christian tradition and fifth in the Jewish one. There’s even this passage in the Book of Isaiah that talks about them as these six-winged beings, flying around God’s throne, chanting “holy, holy.” Gives you chills, right? This part took me a little longer to understand, but I got there in the end.

Then, I found pictures of them, all radiant and surrounding God’s throne. They’re described as focusing on purity, keeping things pure and focused around God. So, I started thinking about how to bring that into my own life, you know, the purity and focus part. And that is my next step of practice.

Here’s what I learned about the angel hierarchy:

  • Seraphim are at the top, or near the top, depending on who you ask.
  • They’re followed by Cherubim and then Thrones.

It’s like this whole divine system, each level with its own role. Pretty intricate stuff. After all that reading and learning, I felt like I finally had a grasp on what the seraphim are about.

So, yeah, that’s my journey into the world of the seraphim. From a random idea to learning about ancient texts and angel hierarchies, it’s been a wild ride. And I’m not even done yet! I still have my own ideas about how to use this in practice, but that’s a story for another day. Just wanted to share what I’ve been up to. Who knew angels could be so fascinating?
