Books Like Great Gatsby: Easy Reads Youll Love Too

Okay, so I’ve been on this kick lately, right? Trying to find books that give me the same vibe as “The Great Gatsby”. You know, that whole roaring twenties, glitz and glamour, but also the kinda sad, dark side of it all. I read “Gatsby” a while back and it just stuck with me, you know? So, I went on this little mission to find more books like it.

First, I hit up Goodreads. I figured, who better to ask than a bunch of bookworms, right? I typed in “The Great Gatsby” and started scrolling through the “Readers Also Enjoyed” section. I saw a bunch of titles I recognized, like “To Kill a Mockingbird”, but that wasn’t really what I was looking for. I wanted something with that same “Gatsby” feel.

Then, I thought, why not just Google it? So, I searched for “books similar to The Great Gatsby” and a whole bunch of articles and lists popped up. I started clicking through them, making a list of the books that sounded interesting.

Some of the suggestions were pretty obvious. Like, one article mentioned “Romeo and Juliet”, saying it’s similar because it’s about two lovers separated by social class. Yeah, I guess that’s true, but it didn’t really scratch my “Gatsby” itch, you know?

But then I found some more promising stuff. There was this book called “Elmer Gantry” by Sinclair Lewis, and another one called “The Jungle” by Upton Sinclair. Those sounded interesting, all about the American Dream and the darker side of society. Then there was “Bright Lights, Big City” by Jay McInerney. That one seemed more modern, but it had that same kind of disillusionment vibe that “Gatsby” has.

I also stumbled upon some other titles that caught my eye. “The Tortilla Curtain” by T.C. Boyle, “The Grapes of Wrath” by John Steinbeck, “Let Us Now Praise Famous Men” by James Agee and Walker Evans, and even “The Wolf of Wall Street” by Jordan Belfort. They all seemed to touch on that theme of the American Dream, but from different angles.

My Reading List

So, I ended up with a pretty solid reading list. Here’s what I’ve got so far:

Books Like Great Gatsby: Easy Reads Youll Love Too
  • Elmer Gantry by Sinclair Lewis
  • The Jungle by Upton Sinclair
  • Bright Lights, Big City by Jay McInerney
  • The Tortilla Curtain by T.C. Boyle
  • The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck
  • Let Us Now Praise Famous Men by James Agee and Walker Evans
  • The Wolf of Wall Street by Jordan Belfort

I’m pretty excited to dive into these. I’m hoping they’ll give me that same feeling I got from “The Great Gatsby” – that mix of excitement and sadness, you know? It’s like, you’re drawn to the glamour and the parties, but you also see how empty it all can be. Anyway, I’ll let you know how it goes. Maybe I’ll even find a new favorite!
