Okay, so, I got this idea to do a series on “exoticism painting”, which is kind of a broad topic, but I wanted to give it a shot. It all started when I saw this awesome painting of a faraway land, and I was like, “I wanna do something like that!” So, I grabbed my sketchbook and started brainstorming.
First thing I did was think about what makes something “exotic.” Is it the colors? The place? The people? I jotted down a bunch of ideas, like maybe a bustling marketplace in Marrakesh or a serene temple in Bali. Then, I started sketching out some rough compositions. Nothing fancy, just trying to get a feel for what I wanted the final piece to look like. I wanted it to be, you know, eye-catching and a little bit mysterious.
After a few days of sketching, I finally settled on a scene: a hidden oasis in the middle of a desert. I imagined lush palm trees, a crystal-clear pool, and maybe a lone figure in the distance. I grabbed my canvas and started blocking in the big shapes. The background was mostly warm colors, lots of yellows and oranges for the sand. Then I started adding the greens for the palm trees, making sure they stood out against the desert backdrop.
The most fun part was painting the water. I used a bunch of different blues and greens, layering them to create that shimmering effect. It took a while, but I was really happy with how it turned out. I think the water really makes the painting pop, you know?
