Beyond Sherlock: Arthur Conan Doyle Books Other Than Sherlock Holmes Youll Love
Okay, so, I’ve always been a huge Sherlock Holmes fan, right? Like, who isn’t? But I realized the other day that I’d never actually read any of Arthur Conan Doyle’s other works. I mean, the guy created one of the most iconic characters in literature, so he had to have some other good stuff up his sleeve, yeah?
So, I decided to dive in. I went down to the local bookstore and just started browsing the shelves. Honestly, I was a little overwhelmed. There are a lot of books with the name “Arthur Conan Doyle” on the cover, and many of them are not Sherlock Holmes.
Finding Non-Sherlock Books
I started pulling out books that looked interesting, flipping through them, and reading the first few pages to get a feel for the story. There are historical fiction, science fiction, adventure stories, and all sorts of things. It is really a big surprise for me. I mean, how can one person write so many different kinds of books?
- The White Company: This one caught my eye because it’s a historical novel, and I’m kind of a history buff. I picked it up and started reading, and let me tell you, it’s pretty gripping. It’s set during the Hundred Years’ War, so you’ve got knights, battles, and all that good stuff. Definitely a different vibe from Sherlock, but still really well-written.
Reading and Enjoying
I ended up buying a few books, including “The White Company” and started reading them on my commute. I have to say I really enjoy reading them. It is a totally different experience to read a book than to watch TV or play games. And, I felt good reading these classic books, you know?
So, yeah, that’s my little adventure into the non-Sherlock world of Arthur Conan Doyle. It just goes to show you that there’s always more to explore, even with authors you think you know well. I mean, I thought I knew Doyle because I’d read all the Sherlock stories, but it turns out I was just scratching the surface.
If you’re a Sherlock fan like me, I definitely recommend checking out some of Doyle’s other stuff. You might be surprised at what you find. And hey, if you’ve already read some of his other works, let me know what you thought! I’m always looking for recommendations.
Oh, and one more thing. If you want to get into the Sherlock Holmes stories, you might want to pick up one of those annotated versions. I saw a couple when I was at the bookstore – “The Annotated Sherlock Holmes” by William Baring-Gould and “The New Annotated Sherlock Holmes” by Leslie Klinger. They looked a bit expensive, though. I didn’t get them this time, but maybe next time I will treat myself to one.
Alright, that’s it for now. Happy reading, everyone!
