Okay, so today I wanted to dive into something that’s always fascinated me – the execution of Marie Antoinette. You know, the one where she was like a fashion icon to European courts? Yeah, that one. I got really into it, and I’m gonna tell you all about what I did and what I found.
First thing, I started by looking up some paintings. I found this one by a guy named William Hamilton, and it’s in the Museum of the French Revolution. This one really got me thinking about the whole scene, you know? The French Revolution was such a wild time.
Then I remembered that movie by Sofia Coppola, “Marie-Antoinette.” It kind of made me realize how much we, like, forget that she and Louis XVI were real people, not just characters in a story. So, I watched some clips again, just to get a different perspective.
Next, I dug into some more historical stuff. I found this drawing by Jacques-Louis David, it is called “Marie Antoinette Led to Her Execution 1793”. He was a big deal back then, a Neoclassicism artist. This drawing is from when she was imprisoned in the Tower of the Temple. It’s kind of rough and raw, and it gave me chills, to be honest.

I haven’t read the whole thing yet, but I skimmed through it, and it’s all about her life, starting from when she was just a young girl. It looks pretty interesting, so I might actually read it later.
And then, the big one. I found a postcard depicting her execution on October 16, 1793, at the Place de la Révolution, which is now called the Place de la Concorde. It’s a wider shot, showing the whole crowd and everything. It’s kind of crazy to think about all those people gathering to watch something like that.
