Virginia Woolf Top Books: Must-Read Novels for Every Fan
Okay, so, I’ve been meaning to get into Virginia Woolf for ages. She’s one of those authors everyone talks about, but I just never got around to her books. So, I decided, it’s time! But where to start? That was the big question.
First, I hit up Google. Just typed in “Virginia Woolf best books” and, boy, did I get a lot of opinions! Lots of lists, lots of articles, it was a bit overwhelming, to be honest. I spent a good hour just scrolling through different websites, trying to get a feel for what people were saying.
After that, I decided to check out some forums. I figured, real people, real discussions, that might give me a better sense of where to start. I jumped into a couple of literature forums and just browsed through threads about Woolf. People were really passionate about her! Some folks were saying “Mrs. Dalloway” is a must-read, others were all about “To the Lighthouse”. There were even some votes for “Orlando” and “The Waves”. It was a lot to take in.
Then I thought, maybe I should look at what the critics say. So, I went back to Google and searched for some scholarly articles and reviews. I found a few interesting pieces that talked about Woolf’s style and themes, which was helpful. They mostly agreed with the popular choices but also mentioned “A Room of One’s Own” as an important work.
Finally, after all that research, I made a list of the books that kept coming up.
- Mrs. Dalloway
- To the Lighthouse
- Orlando
- The Waves
- A Room of One’s Own
I decided to start with “Mrs. Dalloway” since it seemed like the most popular and accessible choice, but the others are for sure on my to be read list, now! I will read it and share my experience again.
