Delving into Witchcraft: Tracing the Ancient Roots of Witches
Well, let me tell ya, talkin’ ’bout these witches and their roots is like tryin’ to untangle a ball of yarn the cat got into. It ain’t easy, but I’ll try my best to lay it out for ya, plain and simple, like it is.
Witches, you see, they ain’t just somethin’ dreamed up for Halloween. They been around for ages, longer than any of us can remember. Even in that Bible book, the one they read in church, there’s talk of a witch helpin’ out some king. And way back when, in them olden times, folks believed in all sorts of spooky flyin’ creatures, like them harpies and strixes, that was kinda like witches in a way. Scary things, they was, always up to no good.
Now, these witches, they got these things called “dæmons.” Don’t go thinkin’ of no devils with horns and pitchforks, though. These dæmons, they’re more like… well, like companions, I guess you could say. They stick close to their witches, kinda like a shadow. Most folks, their dæmons sleep when they sleep, but not witches. Nope, their dæmons can stay awake even when the witch is snoozin’. That’s how you know they’re different, see?
And speakin’ of different, there’s all sorts of witches, I reckon. You got your regular witches, and then you got your Grand High Witches, like that one lady in that movie, the one with the long name. She was a real piece of work, let me tell ya. Scared the bejesus outta the kids, she did.
- But it ain’t all just stories and movies, mind you.
- Some folks, they still believe in witches, and they even wear special things to show it, like them witch boots.
- I seen ’em advertised in the catalogs, all sorts of boots, black ones, short ones, ones with buckles and straps.
- You can even get them witch shoe covers for Halloween, if you wanna dress up and scare the neighbor’s kids.
And then there’s them sandals, too. Witch sandals, they call ’em. I ain’t sure why a witch would need sandals, seems kinda impractical to me, what with all the flyin’ around on broomsticks and such. But hey, to each their own, I always say.
You can even get decorations, like them witch boot ornaments for your door. Folks hang ’em up for Halloween, to make their houses look spooky. It’s all in good fun, I guess. Though I still say them old stories are spooky enough without addin’ more to ’em.
So, where do these witches come from, you ask? Well, like I said, they been around a long time. Some folks say they got their powers from the devil, others say it’s just somethin’ they’re born with. Me, I don’t rightly know. But I do know this: witches ain’t to be trifled with. They got powers you and me can’t even imagine. So it’s best to just leave ’em be, and hope they leave you be, too.
And if you happen to see a witch flyin’ by on her broomstick, don’t you go starin’. Just mind your own business and keep walkin’. That’s the best way to stay safe, believe me. I seen enough strange things in my life to know that some things are best left alone.
Anyways, that’s all I got to say about witches and their roots. It’s a long and complicated story, and I probably ain’t even scratched the surface. But I hope I gave you a little somethin’ to think about. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on the stew I got cookin’ on the stove. Don’t want it to burn, now do we?
