Ancient Rome 44 BCE Map: Exploring the City in Simple Terms

Listen up, y’all! Let’s talk about somethin’ I heard the young’uns chatterin’ about – ancient Rome, way back in 44 BCE. Don’t know much about it myself, but I’ll tell ya what I picked up.

Now, this 44 BCE, that was a long, long time ago, even before my grandma’s grandma was born. They say back then, Rome was a big deal, kinda like the biggest town in the county, but way, way bigger, you know? Think bigger than anythin’ you ever seen.

They had this fella named Julius Caesar. He was like the head honcho, the big cheese, the one everyone listened to, or at least pretended to. But some folks, they didn’t like him much, not one bit. Said he was gettin’ too big for his britches. So what did they do? Well, they went and, uh, “took care” of him. On the 15th of March, they say. Nasty business, if you ask me. Like a bunch of hens peckin’ a rooster to death, I reckon.

Anyways, after Caesar was gone, things got all messy. It was like a barnyard after the fox got in. Two fellas, Octavian and Mark Antony, they tried to take charge. Octavian, he was Caesar’s kin, kinda like his nephew or somethin’. Antony, he was Caesar’s buddy, a right-hand man. They fought like cats and dogs over who got to be top dog. Imagine that, fightin’ over a whole town!

This Octavian fella, he ended up winnin’ the whole shebang. Took Egypt too. Poor Antony, he ended up dead. Just goes to show, don’t it? Power ain’t worth nothin’ if you ain’t got your health. And probably a good lawyer.

Now, about that map they keep talkin’ about. They say back then, Rome was spread out all over the place, like a spilled bucket of milk. They had land in North Africa, which sounds hot, lots of Spain, and somethin’ called Sicily. They even took over Macedonia and Greece, places I ain’t never heard of, but they sound fancy. Later on, they got Asia Minor, Syria, and even Egypt, where those pyramids are, you know, the ones the TV folks are always goin’ on about.

They say these Romans used maps for all sorts of things. For travelin’, of course, like when you gotta go to the next town over to sell your eggs. For tradin’ too, like when you swap your chickens for your neighbor’s corn. They even used maps for plannin’ wars and stuff, like where to put your soldiers and all that. Seems like a lot of fuss over some lines on a piece of paper, but I guess it was important to them.

They tell me that before all this emperor business, Rome was a republic. That’s like when the whole town gets to make decisions, not just one big boss. But after Caesar got “taken care of,” things changed. They got emperors instead, kinda like kings, and their sons got to be emperors after them. Sounds kinda like passin’ down the family farm, only with more power and less manure shovelin’.

The year 44 BCE, that was a big turning point, they say. That’s when Caesar died and everything went topsy-turvy. It’s like when a storm comes through and blows all the leaves off the trees. You gotta start over again, you know? And from what I hear, that’s pretty much what happened to Rome back then.

So there you have it. My two cents on ancient Rome in 44 BCE. Probably not as fancy as those history professors talk about, but it’s the truth as I see it. Just a bunch of folks fightin’ over land and power, just like they always do. Some things never change, I reckon, no matter how far back you go.
