This here baroque period food, they sure ate funny back then. Not like how we eat now, no sir. Rich folks, they had all sorts of fancy stuff. Meats and sweets all mixed up, can you believe it?

They liked to show off, those rich folks. Had these big dishes, they called them. And guess what? Live animals would jump out! Birds and frogs and whatnot. Imagine that at your dinner table! Scared the daylights outta me, I bet.

This whole time, it was called the baroque period. Fancy name, huh? They had fancy art and music too, not just food. Everything was all, well, extra like. Lots of gold and colors and big, poofy clothes. You get the picture.

Now, they had different courses, see? Not like us, just putting everything on the plate at once. First, they’d have some pate. That’s like ground up meat, kinda like a fancy meatloaf. And soups, or pickled things. Pickled everything, I tell ya!

Then came the big stuff. The main course, they called it. Big hunks of roast meat. And vegetables, but probably not like the ones we eat. Maybe all fancy-like, with sauces and spices. And get this, they’d have sweet dishes right alongside the meat! Can you imagine? Like having your cake and eating it too, right in the middle of your dinner!

Back in those days, they called it the Baroque Era, from like 1650 to 1850. Long time ago. Things sure changed a lot in how folks ate. Rich people had big changes, they didn’t have to do hard labor like us. They had these big fancy dinners, you wouldn’t believe. Not just the food, but the whole shebang. The way they set the table, the plates they used, all of it. Fancy, I tell ya.

And for dessert? Well, they’d have fruit, which is fine, I guess. And cheese. But also more sweets! Like they hadn’t had enough already. And they had these little toothpicks, all perfumed and whatnot. Can you believe it? Perfumed toothpicks!

Folks today, some of them are putting money on them chefs, kind of like how they did back in the baroque period. Guess some things never change, huh? It is about money and showing off, I guess.

They got this thing called Tafel Talks, where they talk about food and music from back then. It is like they trying to bring back that old time. All fancy and such. With recipes and everything. I don’t know if it is good idea though, those old food does not sound good to me.

Europe, that’s where all this fancy baroque stuff happened, mostly. Big, old Europe. They had a lot of money to spend on food, I guess. They used the food to show off to each other, kind of like competition.

Well, that’s all I know about that baroque period food. It’s a far cry from what we eat today. Thank goodness for that, I say! Give me a good, simple meal any day. None of that fancy stuff with animals jumping out at you. No sir, not for me. Just some good, honest food, that’s all I need.

It is interesting though, how things were so different back then. The food they ate, the way they ate it. Makes you think, don’t it? We’re lucky to have it so easy now. We don’t have to deal with all that fuss and bother. Just good, plain food, and plenty of it. That’s the life, I tell ya.

I guess rich folks always gonna be rich folks, no matter what time it is. They always gonna want to show off what they got. Whether it’s fancy clothes, or fancy houses, or fancy food. It’s just the way of the world, I suppose. You cannot change that.

But us regular folks, we don’t need all that. We’re happy with what we got. A good meal on the table, a roof over our heads, and family around us. That’s all that matters, in the end. Ain’t that right? That’s what my old mama used to say, and she was right. Money can not buy happiness. Good food with family, that is happiness.

So, next time you’re having a meal, just be thankful for what you got. Don’t worry about all that fancy baroque stuff. Just enjoy your food, and be glad you’re not having to eat meat stuffed with more meat, with a side of live frogs! That is what I am saying, ha! Be happy with what you got.
