They started sayin’ she used witchcraft to get the king to marry her. Said she put a spell on him. Poor Edward, he died, and then things got real ugly for Elizabeth.

Back then, they were scared of witches. They’d blame everything on ’em. Bad crops? Witch. Sick cow? Witch. King dies young? Elizabeth Woodville, the witch! It was crazy, I tell ya. They said Elizabeth and her mother used magic to get ahead.
There were other women, too. Joan of Navarre, she was a queen, and they called her a witch. Eleanor Cobham, another fancy lady, same thing. It seems like if you were a woman with any kind of power, they’d call you a witch to get rid of ya.
Elizabeth Woodville, she had a hard life, even though she was queen. Lost her husband, lost her kids, lost everything. All ’cause people said she was a witch. I don’t know if she was or not, but it sure made things hard for her.
This whole Elizabeth Woodville witch thing, it’s a sad story. People can be real mean, especially to women who have a little somethin’ special. They were jealous, that’s what it was. Jealous of her looks, jealous of her marryin’ the king. So they called her a witch.
Elizabeth Woodville’s Family
Her family was mixed up in it, too. That Jacquetta, her mother. They said she taught Elizabeth all about witchcraft. I don’t know about that. Maybe they just liked pretty things and livin’ by the water. But people, they like to talk. And when they talk about witches, things get ugly. Her whole family got dragged through the mud.

And her kids, those poor babies. Taken away from their mother, all because of these witch stories. It just ain’t right. A mother should be with her children, no matter what. But back then, if you were a witch, you were nothin’. Less than nothin’.
So, that’s the story of Elizabeth Woodville, the supposed witch. Was she really? I don’t know. But it sure made a mess of her life. And it’s a reminder that people can be cruel, and rumors can be dangerous. Especially when they’re about witchcraft. It’s a shame, it really is. A queen, brought down by whispers and lies. They said she was a witch, and that was enough to ruin her. Sad, sad story. That Richard, he got to be king, but at what cost, I ask ya? At what cost?
