l hourloupe tips and tricks: Get the most out of it!

I heard folks talkin’ ’bout this thing, what’s it called, L’Hourloupe? Sounds fancy, huh? I don’t know much ’bout it, but I heard it’s some kinda art. Some fella named Jean, Jean Dubuffet, he made it. Back in, uh, 1962, I think it was. Long time ago, I reckon.

They say he was just doodlin’ on the phone one day. You know, just makin’ lines and squiggles, like you do when you’re talkin’ and not really payin’ attention. And then, bam! He got this whole idea for this L’Hourloupe thing. Crazy, ain’t it?

What’s this L’Hourloupe thing?

Well, it’s a bunch of pictures, all made with these lines and colors. Red, white, and blue, mostly. Looks like a bunch of puzzle pieces all jumbled up. I saw a picture of one once, kinda looked like a face, but all messed up and twisted around. They say it’s supposed to make you see the world different.

  • Red lines
  • White spaces
  • Blue lines
  • All jumbled up

This Jean fella, he made a whole bunch of these L’Hourloupe things. Pictures, statues, even whole rooms full of it. He kept makin’ ’em for years and years. I guess he really liked them lines and colors.

Some folks, they think it’s real special, this L’Hourloupe. They say it’s important and means somethin’ deep. I don’t know ’bout all that. To me, it just looks like a bunch of scribbles. But hey, I ain’t no art expert.

Why do people like it?

I guess some people just like things that are different. And this L’Hourloupe, it’s definitely different. You ain’t never seen nothin’ like it before, that’s for sure. Maybe it makes ’em think, or feel somethin’. Like when you look at a real pretty sunset, or a field of flowers. It just makes you feel good inside. Maybe it’s like that.

This Jean fella, he said he wanted to make art that was raw, like a kid’s drawin’. He didn’t want it to be all perfect and proper. Maybe that’s why people like it. It ain’t like them fancy paintin’s you see in museums, all perfect and still. It’s more like, well, life. Messy and all over the place.

L’Hourloupe, L’Hourloupe, L’Hourloupe

I keep sayin’ that word, L’Hourloupe. Still sounds funny to me. I wonder what it means. Someone told me it don’t mean nothin’. Jean just made it up. He liked the way it sounded. Like a made-up word a kid would say. Makes sense, I guess, seein’ as how he wanted his art to be like a kid’s drawin’.

They say this Jean Dubuffet, he was a big deal in the art world. He made all kinds of art, not just this L’Hourloupe stuff. He painted, he made statues, he even wrote books. He was a busy fella, that’s for sure.

He was born a long time ago, over a hundred years, I reckon. Died back in the ’80s. But people still talk about his art, ‘specially this L’Hourloupe. They put it in museums, write books about it, all that. Not bad for a bunch of scribbles, huh?

L’Hourloupe is somethin’ else

It is surely a big deal. I saw one time they had a whole bunch of them L’Hourloupe things all together in one room. It was like walkin’ into another world. All them lines and colors, swimmin’ around you. Made my head spin a little, I gotta say. But it was somethin’ to see, that’s for sure.

One of them L’Hourloupe pictures, it was just a bunch of lines, all twisted and tangled. But if you looked at it long enough, it started to look like somethin’. Like maybe a face, or a dog, or a tree. It kept changin’, the longer you looked. It’s like one of them magic eye pictures.

Another one, it was all red and blue, with just a little bit of white. It looked like fire, almost. Or maybe a storm. It made me feel kinda uneasy, but I couldn’t stop lookin’ at it.

I reckon this L’Hourloupe, it’s kinda like life. You never know what you’re gonna get. It can be messy, and confusin’, and sometimes it don’t make no sense at all. But it’s always interestin’. And there’s always somethin’ new to see, if you just look close enough.

So, I don’t know if I understand this L’Hourloupe stuff. But I guess I appreciate it. It’s different, that’s for sure. And it makes you think. And that ain’t a bad thing, now is it? Even an old lady like me can see that. It’s art, and art is supposed to make you feel somethin’, or see somethin’ in a new way. Maybe that’s all there is to it. Or maybe there’s more. I don’t know. But I’m glad I heard about it, this crazy, mixed-up, L’Hourloupe.
